The criminal will ALWAYS find ways to get guns. Why in the world would a government set out to take away the law abiding citizen's weapons used to protect themselves and their families?

Crime is rampant and it's impossible for the police to rush to the aide of a potential victim. It takes only seconds for a crime to be committed. If I'm one of those potential victims, I sure as HELL don't want to wait for the police to come. I'll be dead by that time. LET ME PROTECT MY LIFE! THE ONLY WAY I STAND A CHANCE IS TO OWN A GUN!

Look as the present drug situation. BILLIONS of dollars are spent on trying to put a stop to drugs being smuggled into this country. The fight has been going on for years and still there's no sign of an even a dent in preventing the stuff from ending up in this country. Criminals are VERY clever creatures and will always find a way to continue their evil crimes against the people.

People need to wake up and see that when their right to own a gun is taken away, their lives and the lives of their loved ones will be in absolute danger.

Countries that forbid its people the right to bear arms, are dictatorial countries.

There's a country I visit quite often and I won't mention the name. It is forbidden by its government for its citizens to own a gun. GUESS WHAT? The honest, law abiding citizens don't own a gun, BUT EVERY EVIL SLEAZE BAG SURE DOES!

It's an everyday event for a criminal to break into the homes of families and MURDER entire families. It's so damn easy for the criminal because he KNOWS FOR A FACT that he is the only ones with a gun. Even the police are afraid of the criminals!

A knife, a baseball bat, a frying pan as our only means of protection is like using a chicken feather to protect ourselves against an intruder with a gun.

We've got guns in our house.

(And we're keeping them.)

The constitution gives us 'the right to bear arms.' Seems fair to me.

Absolutely! Only problem is that as we speak, "some powerful political figures" are doing everything in their power to take that CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT away from us!

I concur...
...Gun education would be far wiser then gun control, but so would sex education instead of preaching moral abstinence. Unfortunately the system is not run by clear thinkers just fear-mongers (Who want complete control).

It is unfortunately illegal to posses a firearm in the city limits of Chicago (Not that most people abide by this) for if I could I would own one, two, a few, not simply for defensive reason but because a gun is a beautiful machine worthy of both my respect and admiration.

We have to retain the right to own weapons. You are right if guns are forbidden, only criminals will have them.

The problem here is that those who are pro gun control, have never been in countries where their citizens cannot own a weapon.

It's a frightening thing to see. The country I speak of, has bloody shoot outs just about everyday. Families can't even go grocery shopping without fear of *groups* shooting it out in the parking lots.

Families have been out to a restaurant, enjoying a meal, when the *groups* enter with machine guns shooting it out with another *group,* killing innocent bystanders! Each and every time this happens, the police are nowhere around because they are terrified. The *groups* have more sophisticated and powerful weapons.

To take away the right of the people to bear arms is to put them in grave danger. Hardcore criminals will stoop to nothing. Why must we give up our rights to bear arms and just sit there like sitting ducks to be slaughtered?

The rich, famous and powerful DO NOT have to worry about the safety of their family because they have guards with big time weapons. Lets just suppose that it became a law, that private citizens caught with a weapon for protection would be incarcerated. Would ALL these RICH, FAMOUS AND POWERFUL (LETS INCLUDE POLITICIANS, TOO!) individuals be willing to have guards without weapons? The answer: HELL NO!

"a last resort to protect against tyranny in government?" WTF!?
Nov. 18th, 2005 04:32 am (UTC)
An armed people is governed. A disarmed people is ruled.

I truly believe that The Bushanistas would impose martial law if they thought they could get away with it. But we have way too many fucking guns in our hands to realistically contemplate that. Notice that one of the first things the authorities did in NOLA was to take people's guns, law abiding citizens who'd done absolutely nothing. They wanted Control.

And that whole 'using the military in case of a Bird Flu outbreak'..see how fast that slipped below the waves. Bet The Pentagon said, 'no way'. And that's because they know we're a heavily armed people. Nuf' said! ;)

I have a gun, but I would never fire it. It is an antique. Instead I have several 3 foot pieces of razor sharp steel.

I have been thinking about buying a handgun. I have been looking at taurus .45s.

I have a gun and I WOULD DEFINITELY fire it.
I pity the fool who breaks into my home with
intent to do me bodily harm. I'll shoot him
in a heartbeat!

Huggy Bear, I feel so much safer knowing I have a gun in my home.

I'm a RESPONSIBLE gun owner and I'm an expert shooter. The best thing we can do is to seek as much information that pertains to guns.

I was a victim of violent crime as a child. I was helpless and only by the grace of God, I was able to escape with my life. I'm not helpless anymore.

I'm sure that those who have been victims of crime feel the same way as I do when it comes to safeguarding our Constitutional right to bear arms!

I've always liked the saying. "You can have my gun. When you pry it from my cold dead fingers." They had a scene like that in the movie red dawn.

I think that phrase is perfect. I'll be using it myself, too!
Hugs my friend!

Just because the pen is mightier than the sword doesn't mean you shouldn't have a sword.

My problem with government is when they try to make the world black and white. All it does is make extreme, opposing sides that eventually clash. And, the side with guns will always win. So, if you want peace, prepare for war. That includes each citizen's responsibility to fight the war on crime. All one has to do is be prepared. That's the difference between a victim and a person FREE of crime. Be prepared.
Nov. 18th, 2005 05:44 pm (UTC)
I couldn't of said it better myself!
Thanks and hugs!

Respectfully, I see it differently.

First of all, I think that the gun control political debate is bullshit. The lobbyists and politicians (on BOTH sides) don't give a shit about the issue, they just want your money and your vote. If they weren't working for/against gun control, they'd be scaring people about abortion or social security or the war.

If the issue was settled, the lobbyists and the politicians wouldn't have jobs, so they have a HUGE stake in keeping everyone stirred up and fighting for/against bad legislation.

That being said, I don't think gun control legislation does anything, but I do think that there are too many guns in the US. 90% of them are in the hands of normal, solid, decent people. But that other 10% is where the problems come from. The difference between me and the gun control people is, I don't think there's anything that can be done about it.

I'm not a liberal.

I'm not a pacifist.

But that's my opinion.

Well, speaking as someone who has been to many other countries aside from our own, I will say that I'm not neccessarily in favor of people being armed... I mean, in most socialist countries they disallow guns... To the extent that when one is used, i.e. someone shot, it makes national headlines... I think this is amazing, when the amount of people shot in one year I can count on my fingers & toes, and sometimes just my fingers... I also think enforcing more gun control laws, i.e. not selling them anymore / making them illegal, is good because it doesn't stop violence, per se, but it does make it more personal... No longer can a coward hide behind a gun... It's time to bring it face to face... Where it should be... No more peripheral damage... No more drive bys...
HOWEVER, I do believe in the constitution... I just know that this was also written in a different time... If it was written today, I doubt it would be the same...
Sorry, to make this my first post, and hopefully it was well written...
I just felt the need to speak up for the other side... lol

Yes, the Constitution was written in different times and if it were written today, I’m sure it would also include the right to bear machine guns and grenades!

I have also visited a few countries and I frequent one quite often. I won’t mention this particular country. Their citizens are not permitted to own guns, unless they are registered. The only problem with this is that the majority of its people lives in extreme poverty and cannot afford to pay the outrageous fees.

The problem here is that the hoods have access to the most sophisticated weapons. Even the police are terrified of them because if they attempt to catch one of them, they will definitely end up tortured and slaughtered. Also, kidnappings are a daily event, where the victim’s fingers or ears are amputated and sent to the family members.

Families are constantly being murdered in their homes because the bastards know that they DO NOT possess a gun. Families can’t even go to the grocery stores or to a restaurant because it’s common for hoods to shower their intended victim with bullets from a machine gun. This would be fine, but what happens each and every time is that innocent bystanders are slaughter, also.

I too, have been to different countries and have seen many things. This country has been the land of the free because most of its citizens own guns. RESPONSIBILITY is the issue here.

I have been the victim of violent crime when I was most vulnerable. I tell you here and now, I am prepared. I’ll blast the bastards head off in the blinking of an eye, who attempts to break into my home with intent to harm me.

Also, a country that denies its citizens the right to bear arms is a country that will eventually become a tyrannical country.

Thanks for expressing you thoughts on this topic. I respect your views and yes, I still love you! haaa

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws."
