Old Coca-Cola machine

I just bought this very old working, and original Coca-Cola machine from a very old grocery store that's closing shop. I was very lucky, because I managed to talk the seller down an awful lot from his original selling price. I still have to clean it up. There are parts where the painting has chipped off. Do you think it will lose its value if I do something about the paint chips? Do you think this machine will be worth something some day? I'll never sell it, just wondering about the someday potential value of this thing.

That machine is worth something now. It's a collector's item.

I hope you're right Dave, but if not, it's okay, since I already love it as much as I do my gumball collection.

I wouldnt touch the paint until you figure out how much it is worth untouched, usually untouched would be worth more

take care

I'll take your advice and not touch it until I find out more about it. Thanks for the link!

You're gonna stock it with Fanta, ain't ya? lol

It's gonna be great for future parties. I'll stuff it with Coca-Cola, beer, and of course, my famous Margaritas! :o)

Man, I wish I had one of those!

I just happen to pass by this old neighborhood on the south side of town in hopes of finding something interesting to take pictures of, when I saw it.

You've got suggestions, but I'd suggest you decide if you want an investment or a showpiece. If it's a showpiece (and it seems from your responses that's what it'll be), don't worry about the value, just fix the box up.

Wow, a vending machine... that is cool.

I love it! When I clean it up, I'll post pics of the inside, too.

I have always wanted my own Coke machine!
Marry me! ;)

I will, but only if you promise to use one half for your Coca-Cola, and I use the other for my Pepsi! Hope the Coca-Cola company doesn't find out I'm a Pepsi lover and confiscate the Coke machine from us!

I plan on leaving it outside, under the backyard porch, but I'll check, because you got me curious. Thanks!

I haven't seen one of those machines in years. Do you know when it was made?
Aug. 4th, 2009 08:21 pm (UTC)
No, but I'll check and put the info, if I can find it, and a pic when I've cleaned the outside and inside. I love it!

I don't think it'll lose value if you do something about the paint chips...

I think it's awesome!

Yes, I also think it's awesome! :o)

Wow, that's awesome! I think when/if I ever get a house, I'm going to decorate it with Coca Cola stuff! That clearly is a collector's item!

Not sure about the value thing to be honest with you, but I would check into it before doing anything. You know?

I will take your advice.

I have quite a collection of gumball machines for fun. Start your Coca-Cola collection now, so you'll have it ready when you buy your own place. I think I'll start collecting, too! :o)

Typically an item like this is not subject to the "original paint" value. If it were like new, that's one thing, but here the nature of the beast makes it such that things will have to be repaired/restored to bring it back to a sellable state. Due to this one's size, its collectibility is not as marked as one of the glass-door vertical coolers. Still, this is a pretty big box, not something you find a whole lot of.

So, first, is it running? Second, can you find a manufacturer's name? Finding the model number makes it even easier.

I sure wish it had been one of the stand up ones, but I'm still happy with it.

Yes, it works, and just as soon as I find the manufacturere's name, and number, I'll make another post about it.

Clean it but do not paint it. If you try and paint it you will loose value. The only way it would become more valuable is if you coud get Original paint amd strip and repaint it. I doubt you copuld find any of the original paint type and colors.

Keeping it as is and using it for partys and such would be your best bet.

I won't Daddy. It looks pretty good as it is now, which is surprising, since it has been used since the seller bought it himself, and was used in his store.

I'm just going to clean it real good, inside and out, and show the pic again to you.

It's worth something now.
Value is relative. It's a collector's item. You can keep it as is or refurbish it. Just don't totally change it.

Re: It's worth something now.
I'm not going to do a thing to it, because it still looks good as is, and I plan on ROCKING on and on with it! :o)

One does not see that type very much. It might have some value, more the value you place on it than anything else.

The only time I had seen one of these was in pictures. I've place a big value on it, just for my enjoyment. The more I look at it, the more I love it.
