These are the types of fanatical Christians that constantly keep me praying, "Lord Jesus, protect me from your people!" :o)
Christian group boycotts Starbucks

1. Do you see anything perverted about the little mermaid logo? Why?
2. Are these Christians right in making such a big deal about such a minute thing as this?

I was so very touched when [info]duoraven sent me this lovely afghan for Christmas, and what made it even more special is the fact that his mother made it for him, and and after cuddling and keeping warm in it for some time, he decided to part from this treasure and give it to me as a gift!

It is so big that it covers my entire bed which has a California size mattress! I keep it right next to me, on top of my couch which is in my computer room.

[info]duoraven, has one more year to complete when he becomes a full fledged attorney, and I can hardly wait, because I do have a BIG mouth and a HOT temper that often times gets me into hot water! I know for a fact he'll be the BEST attorney in the world, and I'll be needing him to defend me many, many times! He's also an author and has written two books, and much to my surprise and utter delight, he has my name in his second book, Plea For Life! If you don't believe me, go buy the book so you can see it! :o)

I've read both these books, and I HIGHLY recommend them!

Childish Things
"A lighthearted adventure story about a group of children living in Midwestern America with lots of magic and visits to familiar and fantastic worlds. Paul Regal, an 11 year old boy who loves to read and dream of far off places, discovers a magic ring and a friendly spirit that allows him to live out every story and tale that he had ever read or heard--but even in fantasy worlds there is danger, and soon Paul must stand up to defend himself and his friends from fairy tales run amuck. Sure to please any fan of Harry Potter or the Hobbit."

Plea For Life
"This is a novel reflecting on abortion. Specifically, it involves a pregnant teenager who is petitioning a juvenile court in a small Missouri town for the right to terminate her pregnancy. The novel follows the various characters involved with the case: the judge, his law clerk, and the attorney assigned to her (to name a few) over the course of a few days during a very hot August. All of them find themselves reflecting on what they thought were solid and unquestioned attitudes on this divisive and emotional subject."

Thank you Timothy, from the bottom of my heart!

Hmm... I really don't see what the problem is. Perhaps this group needs to talk to some hardcore Christian naturists. :)

There's a group of them online here:

I don't see a problem with the little logo, either.

OMG! I never knew hardcore Christian naturists existed! :o)

Hmm, let's see: 4000 dead soldiers, over 20,000 dead Chinese people, I have no idea how many dead in Myanmar but A LOT, poverty, racism and injustice in the US...

Yeah, I think there are a myriad of other things these so called "christians" could be spending time and energy on besides a not quite naked mythological creature on the cardboard ring of a coffee cup. Fucking idiots...

The reason you see all those things that truly matter, is because you have a compasionate heart, and you don't have your mind in the gutter like these fanatical Christians do!

Not too long ago, I got into a little spat, well; it was actually a BIG HARDCORE spat, with a fanatical Christian woman who is extremely wealthy.

She kept telling me that she knew that she and her family would be going directly to heaven when the Lord called upon them. I asked her how she knew this, and she told me that her constant Bible reading and Hallalulias had already won her and her families place in elitist section of heaven. I asked her what things had she done to better humanity, and she told me all she had to do to win her place in heaven was to pray and sing Hallalulia. I then asked her that if she felt she was in higher standings than Mother Teresa with the Lord, and she told me that the only thing the Lord cared for was that a person pray everyday and do the Hallalulias. I then told her that if that was the case, then the life long sacrifice Mother Teresa made with her humanitarian deeds didn’t count at all with the Lord. She told me that that was exactly right. I then told her I had no idea it was so DAMN easy to make it to heaven. She then told me….I won’t continue because the vocabulary we ended up using upon one another is rated X!!@!!

Isn’t it strange that you NEVER hear about these fanatic Christians helping some cause for humanity? Isn’t it strange how they spend all their time looking for things to cause trouble and hatred?

Excuse me! I must stop… because the mere thought of these DAMN busy body hypocrats is getting my blood to boil over!!

I'm a Catholic
1. Of course you don't see anything wrong with the little mermaid, and that's because you don't have a perverted mind like they do!!

2. I'm a Catholic and believe in the Lord with all my heart and soul, but I never shove my beliefs down peoples throat. How could I when I'm a damn sinner??!!

I've had this curious debate a few times because when Starbucks decided to change their logo to the one we most popularly see, I was kind of amused and horrified. I can see why they did it, but I don't agree with the reasons.

Back when they were still on only every *other* streetcorner, and trying to grow, and even be a fixture outside of Seattle and conquering foriegn soil, etc., they hired some marketing goon to do their branding, clearly.

The marketing goon said "hey! Let's make it simple, boring, 'corporate', and add a new identity! - oh, also, since we're a big, big thing now (or will be within a few years) we also must realize that if we want everyone to put our coffee into their mouths, we must remove TITS and SPREAD EAGLE FISH LEGS!

Because lord knows, the idiots will be offended by that. The small, cartoon representation of a mythical beast that we chose and now are afraid to use....

And I was sorely disappointed. Not only that they changed the logo, which was doing just fine, but that they caved in to fear and compromise that was pretty much self-chosen.

I long for the logo to come back - even if it's only a collector item here in the hometown, vs. their corporate sell-out to hide the mermaid t&a and 'brand' themselves with some dumbed down logo.

As for christians boycotting them for this? Fuck the christians. They're idiots aside from their views of a coffee logo. They've proven that time and again for over 2000 years now. Once they get their act straight, they can boycott with an ounce of effectiveness and integrity.

But you see, I've gotten carried away again. Let me more directly address the questions you asked:

1. Do you see anything perverted about the little mermaid logo? Why?
Nope. Perversion is in the mind of the beholder. While I admit to being a total pervert, I do not find this perverted in an offensive way. You have to be thinking dirty to see it as dirty, and the christians are full of dirty, unfulfilled thoughts.

2. Are these Christians right in making such a big deal about such a minute thing as this?
They'll never be right. But when other world events steal their attention or money-making potential, they gotta find something to scream about, and what better than the world's most successful coffee company? Can't the christians do something more original? Hell, there's SATAN out there somewhere apparently doing evil, which I believe they wrote themselves a book to be champions of some cause (to allow for their own existence) and now they're shifting to graphic art representations that their dirty minds feel guilty about viewing?

Dear lord: Your sheep are idiots. Please fix that. Amen.

I'm always thinking of $$$...
Is there a pic somewhere of the logo Starbucks had during the time you speak of? You should have saved the cup, since it could be worth some BUCKS. Damn, I'm always thinking of $$$, huh? :o)

1. "Perversion is in the mind of the beholder." I love the way you phrased it, because it's so true! Those fanatical Christians should be ashamed for having such a dirty LITTLE mind! Can you imagine how their minds work when they accidently look at a naked woman or man?!! Oh my!

2. I wonder why these so called Christians don’t do as Mother Teresa, Audrey Hepburn, Princess Diana, and the still living Brigitte Bardot did, and that's to get their asses to, or send money to those countries and help those people, or the animals of the world who are in so much in pain, instead of using their worthless time in looking for little mermaids who show their boobies in the most innocent of ways to continuously cause havoc in this world we live in??!!

1) Not really
2) I wonder... who do they think invented breasts?

They are probably a little more uptight about this than is needed and it probably indicates an issue more within them than the Starbucks Marketing boys, but it is difficult to remain "pure" in our society these days.

There is a difference between Christians and those in Christendom. Christendom is another name for Babylon the Great, and many people have been conned into following Babylon the Great.

But to answer your questions...

(1) Is there anything perverted about the logo? No, not really. But, does it have a sexual aspect to it. Yes! There is nothing wrong with boobs or sex, however, this logo definitely links coffee and sex together. Sex for guys, fertility for women.

(2) Whatever these people claim to be, they have a right to speak out against anything they want whether you agree with them or not. Some people right it off as it just being a mythical creature. But, it is symbolism, and most people are blind to the symbolism that is rampant throughout our society.

If anything, the mermaid is a false idol. But, if I was going to stand-up against this one, why would I stop there? What about the obelisk (the Washington Monument) in D.C.? It represents a phallus. What about the bull on wall street? Some would argue that's a represntation of Taurus.

But, here is one of the most revealing symbolism of all:

This is a poster released by EU. Look at the inverted stars -- which if you don't know is the symbol for the goat head. Look at how it is a rebuilding of the Tower of Babel. The poster says, "Many tongues, one voice." And look at the EU parliament below. It's architectually designed to look like the rebuilding of the Tower of Babel.

There are many symbols around us that we see, but do not understand their true meaning because most of us are ignorant of religion, especially the occult religion, i.e. the hidden religion.

Re: Religion
They both look very much alike and have something to do with language. How interesting!

(2) There are many things I'm outraged about, and speak out against them, but I don't go out trying to boycott or destroy some business or some person, like these fanatics do. Yes, they do have every right to express things they're against, but leave it there, like any true Christian would!

The world has too many serious and dangerous problems, to be bickering about something so STUPID!

Im not gonna comment other than there are many "levels" of christians, just as you have many levels of Buddists, Islamics, and every other religion known to man. Some are good and try to do what is good for man and women abd there are those who pervert the verses to make themselves greater in their own eyes.

This starbucks balloney is just another assinine examples of the abuse of religion. There are many who bastardise the scriptures and other religious texts to try and prove a point.

On second thought...
After reading more of the posts from others I had to add this.

The King James version and later versions of the Bible have been referenced, Everyone needs to remember that the King james version does have errors in it because it was transcribed into English by 47 scholars, all whom were members of the Church of England. This version was from various translations of the period, the New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus (Received Text) series of the Greek texts. The Old Testament was translated from the Masoretic Hebrew text, while the Apocrypha were translated from the Greek Septuagint (LXX), except for 2 Esdras, which was translated from the Latin Vulgate.

In many situations there were no direct translations because there were no words that were the same in the various languages that were the same in the original Aramaic.

The most direct and correct translation is the Greek Bible, whick is a direct translation from the Aramaic.

In the King James Version it has the last words of Jesus as he hung on the cross as being "It is finished" This is actually very wrong and nothing near the last words. The original scriptures state that his last word was "tetelestai" This is a word that was used in the market places in the old country. It was written on bills of sale when people bouth items from vendors. The correct translation is "Paid In Full."

When looking at what the crusifiction of christ meant, It Is Finished, to me would mean its all done there is no more... "Paid In Full" is more meaningful because his actions completed the transaction. He paid in full for all our transgressions.

When the Bible is studied in relation to other versions such as the Greek you find many other areas that were not translated by those 47 scholors as well as it could have been.

Even today people who say they have read the Bible and know what is in it are often wrong because they read what they think is there not the fill verses. Many people think that Delialah cut Sampsons hair off to make him weak. NOT TRUE...She hired a man to do it.
Many people think Noah took the animals into the Ark by two's, NOT TRUE again, those clean animals were taken by sevens not two's.

These are just some of the errors that people believe to be true.

May. 19th, 2008 10:56 pm (UTC)
I think those silly christian groups like that are just trying to shake down Starbucks for some money to make them go away and bother some one else. They are just dirty perverted idiots who are projecting their own evil fantasies on something harmless like a mermaid logo.
May. 20th, 2008 01:34 am (UTC)
These little Christians need to get their stinking asses in things that are worthwhile, things such as baking cookies to send the proceeds to some needy cause, or volunteering in hospitals to help children with Cancer, or patients with Aids. There are so many things they could better spend their time than finding perversion in things the rest of the world truly doesn't see!!
