Gas Guzzlers on the Road

Okay, I'm bracing myself for all the rotten tomatoes you're gonna throw at me!!

It makes me very angry when I see all these BIG gas guzzlers on the road, gobbling up all of our precious gasoline!

Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!

*runs for cover!* :o(

well look at it this way. they have to pay tons more cash for the gas guzzlers. so instead of being angry, laugh at them for being forced to shell out hundreds of dollars just to fill up a fifth of their tank.

i will say this though. if and when i ever get another car (though i am quite fond of my ford focus which gets great gas mileage), it will be a hybrid.
May. 25th, 2007 01:46 am (UTC)
Sweety Pie, I just can't bring myself to laugh at them, because I've seen their faces right after they filled up! Next time I see one, I'm going to hand him my hanky so he can wipe the sweat and tears from his face! heh heh

Nissan is a great car, and I don't blame you for someday getting a Hybrid. When you do, what color will you chose?

If it's a Hummer I get pissed, because I know that the owner probably has alot of choices, can easily afford the gas, and is likely simply being a total jackass.

If it appears that the vehicle is the right tool for the job, and not just an extension of the driver's penis, I've got no problem at all.

Other times, I might feel sorry for the person who has to fill up the gas when they probably can't afford it... alot of people got suckered into buying gas guzzlers when gas was cheaper and it wasn't such a big issue.

Hell, the American Auto manufacturers are still trying to sucker people into buying inefficient vehicles using arguments like "it would cost us too much money to make efficient vehicles." It's America's loss when all those companies will go bankrupt against competition from overseas.
May. 25th, 2007 01:38 am (UTC)
I agree that many bought their vehicle when the gas prices were still reasonable, and I sympathize with them, but these people who own humongous trucks, where all you see is ONE little head traveling down the freeways, is such a waste of gasoline that’s growing scarcer as the days go by, or so we’re told!

When will America wake up, and start manufacturing ITSY-BITSY little cars?!

I'd drive a fully loaded and armed tank if I could...as it is my biggest dream is to install a mini-gun turret on top of my winnebago.

May. 25th, 2007 02:26 am (UTC)
An armed tank? I think you'd have to move to Iraq, just to fill that monster up with gas! Oh, and the mini-gun would sure be a life saver! :o)

El, It doesn't do me any good to write to you if you don't write back. I'm going for a little interaction here. LOL

I'm going for a little interaction, too, by giving you a little spanking! ;o)

Ha ha. I've considered restoring an '82 Suburban I have just to get a rise out of environmentalists. Trolling IRL is my forte. :D Accessories, the chrome girly mudflaps, “Stop Manbearpig” bumperstick, American flag adhesive on the door, “God bless America” plate, and the old Bush/Cheney ‘04 sticker on the back glass.

Some additional sticker about God, guns, and rock 'n' roll would be great, too. Oh, and no mufflers. :D
May. 25th, 2007 02:14 am (UTC)
OMG! Now those accessories are my kind of accessories! If you ever restore that Suburban, I hope you take pics to share!

I'll never forget my very first car that I named PEBBLES! It was a red clunker, and the seats were the color of candy canes, and she carried all of my worldly possessions! I had an array of stickers on the windows, one was Tweedy Bird, and on the rear bumper I had "I Brake for No Apparent Reason", and the other said, "No Radio - Already Stolen."

Pebbles was a stinker, because I had to stick my thumb out to get someone to give me a push so it would run! Oh, and it didn't have tire rims nor a muffler. God only knows where I dropped them off, because I was always driving over sidewalk curbs!

Aye! Memories!

I get over 36mpg with my car (between 500-600 miles a tank) and I still have to fill-up once or twice a week ($40 on that, this mornin'). I'd hate to imagine how painful that would be if my car was some huge gas guzzler.
May. 25th, 2007 03:56 am (UTC)
I just don't know how many people can make it financially when they're on a set income, and have to pay over way over $100.00 every time they fill up.

Yes, how painful it would be to be stuck with a huge gas guzzler in these times. Thank goodness you and I can fill up with $40, even though it's still quite a bit to pay for gas.

Thought you'd really enjoy this video. :)

Hi btw. :P

Hope you're doing well. I've missed your topics.

Gas guzzlers are a social statement that people aren't going to give up on until it's cool to have something else. It's pathetic and unintelligent. It's like people who have a luxury car such as a mercedies but live in a low class house, usually they're just renting the premesis too. Or like people who buy petty possesions on credit when in reality their annual expenses exceed their annual income. In short, financially and economically ignorant. Sadly, that's main stream american culture for ya. And it's sick. People need to get their priorities straight.
May. 25th, 2007 03:48 am (UTC)
missed you SOOOOO MUCH!!!
I'm going to reply TWO different times!

Where in the world have you been?!! I've been so worried about you, and missed you SOOOOO MUCH!!!

My eyes literally bugged out when I saw your icon! I'm SOOOOOO happy to see you, DEAREST DAVE!! I want to SQUEEZE you to death!!

Okay, let me calm down, and go see the video, and then comment on your gas guzzler comment!!

I don't get it.

I just bought another truck. This one is going to get between 14 and 17 MPG. What, exactly, is the problem with this?

Whoever told you gasoline is precious needs a kick in the ass.
May. 25th, 2007 04:46 am (UTC)
Fox News told me gasoline is precious and we're running out of it.

I don't think gasoline will be coming down in price, and in fact, I believe it will go up much more.

You're the first one who threw me a rotten tomato, but I was too fast for you, and you missed! har har
May. 25th, 2007 04:29 am (UTC)
You know a lot of the people that have gas-guzzlers are the working Poor and there stuck with them. You can not buy some thing with better gas mileage if you don't have the money, your stuck with what you got just the way it is. ;o( and there is no gas shortage just some games being played with the supply and I would never give up my 4X4 could not make it around here with out it :o)
May. 25th, 2007 04:51 am (UTC)
The people I've seen are far from poor; otherwise they wouldn't be able to afford these HUGE brand new trucks and SUV's.

From the pictures I've seen of your truck, it looks very nice, and it's red, which is my favorite color!

I am the proud owner of a 2007 Nissan TEXAS Titan.

It guzzles 14 miles per gallon.

And as a TEXAN to another fellow TEXAN I am surprised you do not have more pride in our huge gas guzzling trucks!

Per shame Playgirl!
May. 25th, 2007 10:17 pm (UTC)
I know you're the proud owner of a Texas Titan, and there's no doubt about it, it's BIG, and gorgeous just like you, and hopefully you'll give me a ride next year in it, but with my luck, you'll most likely be married and with a baby on the way!

I'm not gonna say anything more, because I'm just gonna run before you hit me with a rotten tomato!
May. 25th, 2007 02:41 pm (UTC)
What I find ridiculous and unfathomable is that gas mileage has went down significantly over the past decade.

A few vehicles and their gas mileage:

Hummers 14-18 mpg
Ford F-150 13 - 17 mpg
Ford Explorer 4WD 13 - 18 mpg
Volkswagan New Beetle 20 - 28 mpg

They are a few reasons gasoline prices have risen. First we have to realize that OPEC releases a set amount of crude oil to the market, by controlling the amount of oil on the market they prevent saturation and lower prices. Secondly the nations of the world compete for this fuel, twenty years ago there wasn't that many vehicles on this planet, but now China, South America and other nations have significantly higher number of vehicles in operation, and thus they have a higher demand for fuel. Also fuel efficiency has decreased as consumers favour larger and less efficient vehicles.

Oil is a hot commodity and oil hungry nations of the world are simply willing to out bid each other for it. As more and more autos hit the roads in ever growing manner, the demand for oil rises, while the production remains about the same.

Also we can blame the refineries, we need more refineries to process crude into gasoline.

A good start to reducing oil prices is for Americans and others to stop buying vehicles with poor fuel efficiency. Stop buying vehicles larger than their needs. For example in my town, everyone drives these enormous extended cab pickups, suv's, and mini-vans, and you never ever see more than two people get out of them.

I applaude Brasil for their innovative use of E85 (85% ethanol 15% gasoline) and E100 (96% ethanol up to 4% water). Imagine what a boost to our economy if farmers were again employed to grow corn for ethanol production.
May. 25th, 2007 10:05 pm (UTC)
Thank you for this information!

I believe the time is now to start buying small, fuel efficient automobiles, before it's too late.

I see those huge vehicles around here, also, and it breaks my heart to see only one tiny head inside driving such a gas guzzler. It also pains me to see those gigantic RV’s with only two passengers driving from state to state.

I realize that many people can afford the high cost of fuel, but that's not the issue anymore. We must all start conserving oil for future generations.

I also applauded Brazil!

But my itty bitty car can out run 'ya! har har
May. 26th, 2007 10:04 pm (UTC)

And it makes me doubly angry to see people trying to drive them at 80+ mph... It's ridiculous!

Unless, that is, it's a Lexus RX400 hybrid... In which case, they're cool :D
