I felt the ground shake when he died. I thought it was an earthquake but apparently it was hell itself splitting open ready to bring home their Lord and Master. I shall be popping the champagne tonight and toasting this, a better world.

Falwell and other profiteers like him who use religion for monetary and political gain are the worst kind of evil IMHO. This man condemmed EVERYONE in the name of a loving, forgiving God. He preached hatered towards anyone who disagreed with his fiendish world view, and taught millions how to hate.

The Hell Fires burn bright today, burn well Falwell, you have returned home and can no longer lead the children of God astray.

wicked evil man
He was a wicked evil man who thought he was God, and judged countless people without mercy.

Yes, I'm glad he's gone forever!

I love you!
And he was a very bad man who spewed hatred. Everything that came out this man's mouth was contrary to the teachings of Jesus.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I will be with you, every second of the day, in spirit tomorrow, and I know I will be smiling because I know everything will come out fine! I know this!

I love you!

He won't be missed one bit. Too bad he couldn't take his buddy Pat Robertson with him. The world will not mourn another fundamentalist hatemonger

Hopefully someday soon
Hopefully someday soon, we'll hear in the news that Pat Robertson kicked the bucket, too!

I dislike Robertson just as much as I do Falwell!

That's my take on it too.

I am seeing a lot of hate and evil being spewed by the people who were so offended by his behavior. It's really hypocritcal.

I will not miss him either.

Apparently none of his flock read this journal.
Which is actually kindof suprising, I can only imagine that many of them would like to get sinful with PLaygirl (though they'd feel proper guilt afterwords). :)

His intolerance was a poison to true conservatives and libertarians everyhwere. He hi-jacked a large portion of the GOP and made it too hard for me to accept the candidates he endorsed since they all had to adhere to his own narrowminded views.

When Mccain spoke out against eh moral majority i applauded him then later on he recanted, backpedaled, and kissed Jerry Falwell's ass. That's when he lost me.

Giuliani still hasn't buckled under. So he is still someone I'll listen to along with a few Democrats in the running.
Basically the power of the religious right has always been a factor in how I voted. I am a christian but apparently I am not their brand of christian.

There has tobe a balance with how we interpret that part of the first amendment. respect religion and respect those who don't want it. I have no problems with nativity scenes on public property. or Christmas, but I have a problem with tax money funding faith based initiatives which really are a way for governement to endorse a particular flavor of religion which is totally against the first amendment.

vindictive scoundrel
I just read that Falwell once attacked Hillary Clinton to Lucifer.

How did this vindictive scoundrel become such a powerful force for the Republican Party?

No, I don't miss him. And if you think it sounds cruel, think again.

We may consider the other creatures of the earth as less intelligent, but no one complains when no gazelles come by to mourn over the carcass of a lion.

I cannot be tasked to miss a man who would not be bothered to miss me, or miss a lot of the folks I'd sooner call friends. That's the way it works. Passing to the great beyond does not win you brownie points; we all eventually get to go there. What things win brownie points are instead the things you do while you're here.

Hatred, all dressed up as godliness, is something I will never miss. Nor will I miss those who never apologize for having done so.

Well lets see how many people I can piss off here.

Has he done any good? YES Talk to anyone who attenmded Liberty University. I know someone very close who is a graduate of Liberty University she spoke of times he would do wonderful things for the students, giving scholorships and housing to expectant mothers who could not afford regular schools just to name one of his actions.

He was a very funny man as well, anyone with a modoicum of common sense had to laugh histerically when he vented against the Teletubbies saying Tinky Winky was GAY cause he carried a purse in some shows, was purple (a well known gay color)??? and had the triangle antenna (the Gay-Bi-Lesbian) symbol. You have to admit that was funny!

Many will miss him, many will not. He was contriversial and had strange beliefs, but he has passed now and his passing will effect me as much as his rabble rousing did. NONE at all.

It’s easy to give away things which don’t belong
You can always say what’s on your mind here!! :o)

I honestly believe MANY are glad he’s gone, while only a FEW will miss him.

Perhaps he did wonderful things, but for only those who agreed with him 100%, and licked his ass.

He bashed gays, women, Jews, Buddhists, Catholics, liberals, Hillary, and the list goes on and on, and even went so far as to point accusing fingers to Americans, saying that we were responsible for 911. As for our Teletubbies, he was dead serious, the disgusting sicko!

He called gay activist Jerry Sloan and the gay community brute satanic beasts, and when Sloan confronted him, he didn’t have the balls to admit he did. Sloan had a video, proving he had, and had to pay thousands to Sloan.

It’s easy to give away things which don’t belong to you, and he did. He was a crook and a liar, who stole from the IRS something to the tune of $50,000, which was proven by the IRS.

Daddy, the man was what the Bible warns us of; to beware of men dressed in sheep’s clothing. The man was as cruel, heartless and evil as could be, and I believe he will go straight to hell, because he had the knowledge of what the Bible teaches!

So we're pickin on dead guys now?

The good a man does is oft interred with his bones....while his evil goes on....

or something like that. So we'll believe the charicature the media painted but not the man who wasn't afraid to voice his convictions.
I think the TRUTH lies somehwere in the middle. The media HATES a moral man...wether you agree with JF or not...

When Falwell took over PTL didn't he in essence become the media? You can go on and on about how he was painted by the media but he had access to a public forum and a lot of sentiment people have or don't have is based on the things he said publicly.

Unlike others who were outed by the media for hypocrisy (Swaggart, Bakker, Haggard), Jerry Falwell provided his own depiction and made it available to the public for posterity.

There is no ambiguity here, no room for mistakes. His quotes are testament to who he was and how people feel about him.

Many people will miss him. Some because they only pay attention to the positive things he did. Sadly, many will miss because they agree with the bigotry and hatred he spewed forth in the name of God.

Personally I can never think of Falwell without thinking about his fight with Hustler. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hustler_Magazine_v._Falwell) The case ended up strengthening free speech protections and making friends out of Falwell and Larry Flynt, perhaps the two most unlikely friends in American history.

that sure was a nasty thing for Larry Flynt
Thanks for the link!

Well, that sure was a nasty thing for Larry Flynt to do to Falwell, and can't blame him for being so angry.

I can't imagine anyone missing Falwell. Jesus Christ was a humble, loving, and forgiving Lord; unlike Falwell who was pompous, judgmental, and a major transmitter of hatred toward those who he considered below him!
