Property Tax Appraisal

I bought my home three years ago for its appraised value.

Ever since then, the appraisal on my home has gone up.

I received another UNPLEASANT surprise for this year again from my local elected officials.

The appraisal on my home has gone UP $52,698.00 from what it was appraised three years ago, which means my property taxes have gone up, also!

This city is as poverty stricken as can be. As for entertainment, there's NONE! It's also FILTHY!

I also have an old dump of a house I bought as a future investment. That went up, too, so I'm selling it!!!!!

What went up?
E.P. County
E.P Independent School District
City of El Paso
Community College
Thomason Hospital

What I find so pathetic is that our schools and county hospital are FULL to the brim with illegal aliens!

Oh what the hell! Let us property owners lose our homes and end up in the streets, because we have finally come to the point where WE just can't afford paying for all the freebies the illegals get! And guess what? They continue to enter in HORDES as I speak!

They have demonstrations going on all over the country today. The
demand is for giving them full U.S. rights. (22 million)
Why not just make Mexico the 51st state. That would cost a bunch.

They are beginning to sound like these are entitlements for every
human in the universe.

50% of Mexicans (the ones still in Mexico) have immediate family in the US...yeah, at this point I say we annex it, a border with guatemala would be easier to defend that the 3000 mile rio grande border.

You bought a house? are you an heiress? If not what do you do for a living, cause you're probably the first girl home-owner I know...well, who didn't have to get married to get a man to work to buiy a house for her.

No, I'm not an heiress (I WISH!). Everything I own, I did it on my own, without anyones help. But if this property tax hike continues,
I don't know what I'm going to do. As for the house I live in, I later paid the total balance in full. I was able to do this because
I sued for my mother's death and won.

I was able to buy my own home because I completed a 4 year tour with the U.S. Army. I didn't have to leave a down payment thanks to
the VA Loans they provide for their Vets.

All my brothers, one cousin, and I got together and purchased these investment homes, also. We rent them and divide the excess cost among us.

Oceanside, CA. Home
Costa Mesa, CA. Home

By and by, I'm DIRT poor, this is why I buy EVERYTHING 2nd hand, and own an old 2nd hand 1999 car!

I'm in Canada...East coast in a small city....and we're experiencing the same sort of thing....assessments increasing by 40-50% over 2 years and of course, corresponding property tax increases.

I hope if you do sell, you realize a nice profit!

As for the immigration problem....how is it so poorly managed? Maybe that's a naiive question....not so many people are sneaking into Canada ;-)

I'm sorry you're experiencing the same tax increase INJUSTICE!

I just don't know when it will all stop. I can understand our taxes going up, but not by the astronomical amounts they have for the past three years!

As for our immigration problem, it isn't that it's poorly managed, it that those in high office don't give a damn!

I have to agree with you!! Many elderly people have been priced out of their homes because of tax and insurance increases.
May. 1st, 2007 07:46 pm (UTC)
I just can't imagine how the elderly could possibly come up the money for their property taxes on a fixed income!!

From what I understand, the Border has an express lane for students in some places.
May. 1st, 2007 07:40 pm (UTC)
You understand correctly. There are express lanes at the bridges entering E.P., just for students living in Juarez, and whose parents DO NOT pay taxes, like we El Pasoans do!

So many people are losing their homes because they cannot keep up with the ever rising property taxes!! I'll be one of them eventually, because I can't see a light at the end of the tunnel!

Oh stop exagerrating. El Paso is going to be booming like you've never seen in 7 years. With expansion of Fort Bliss there are estimates of 21.7 billion dollars coming into your city.
That 40,000 new jobs and an increase in housing, construction income is going to go up and I imagine other real income will hit a nice upsurge.

Other parts of the country, even those with no illegal alien problem, would love to have all your problems.

I'd suck it up for a time on the property taxes because once that exapnsion starts it's all going to go crazy and it will all be worth it.

Your illegal alien problem won't make a dent in what you guys will be raking in hand over fist.

Right now El Paso sounds like the most ideal place to live. Once that expansion sets in allt he new property tax revenue from the new housing will pay down your education bonds and eventiually lower your tax rate.

Also I'd like to add, Thomason hospitals tax rate won't be going up in 2008. That's in your daily paper.

Until they start getting serious about controling our borders, this will keep happening. And the worst part is the flood of cheap labor is hurting our country in the long term. The taz base goes down so property taxes go up as a result, which means you get screwed. And that is slowing killing our economy.

I believe in being charitable, but not when it comes to facing a danger where I'll end up in the streets because I had to dig my hands into my pockets to pay for these sinful property taxes which much of it goes to those who are illegal, or citizens who refuse to work!!

I CANNOT understand how it's possible to send a man to the moon, but it's a brain teaser in finding a way of STOPPING illegals from entering this country!

If you sell your home, will you still live in the same city/state?
May. 1st, 2007 09:56 pm (UTC)
I'll do everything in my power not to lose my house, because it has one acre of property, and I have irrigation rights. Besides, I have something like 24 dogs and cats.

I could never find another home with this much property. I only hope and pray, this city someday feels compassion for it's property owners, and start finding other means of revenue to fill it's never ending needs.

I'll just have to create more web site domains, and start charging my friends and family double for the gumballs from my many gumball machines! :o)

isn't it frustrating :( our rates went up something like 55% based on our proprty evaluation. it sucks, big time.
May. 2nd, 2007 05:07 pm (UTC)
Yes it is frustrating, and there isn't a thing we can do about it! :o(

You do have a problem all right. The guy donchep is a nut. He lives in a fantisy world. I think states will have to do something about illegals. The federal gov will never do what is right. Congress are a bunch of do nothings and the president has lost it also.

Well...now that I have your undivided attention, what I really meant to say was: TAX PAYER REVOLT.
You CAN contest this appraisal. Of course you'll have to take time off work to do it...or mail stuff in...like what other homes in the area are ACTUALLY selling for. But it can be done.
Get off your pretty butt and DO IT.
You have nothing to lose.
De nada.
May. 2nd, 2007 05:18 pm (UTC)
Tax payer revolt? There’s no such thing, unless you want to hand your property to the city! Perhaps we need another Boston Tea Party!!

I did contest the year before last. I got $10,000.00 knocked off, but still wasn’t satisfied, and appealed it.

Went before 3 people who are not connected with this entity, and the woman who works for the city. Her attitude sucked, and behaved rudely towards me; just as if I were the enemy. The 3 ended up deducting $3,000.00 more, for a total of $13,000.00.

Last year I made an appointment to contest it again, but was never called!!

This year I plan on fighting it again, which is a pain in the buttunkus! When I go, I don’t plan on appealing the decision, because it will mean another day away from my job.

Did you know that they have a policeman at the door, just incase you loose your temper?!!!
