A Love Affair With Death

There are times when I cannot stand the living, and yesterday was one of those days, so I went to one of my favorite places, where I always find peace, Concordia Cemetery and conversed with the dead.

I sat for hours on this bench in front of the grave of one of the deadliest outlaw gunslingers of the old west, John Wesley Hardin, and let my imagination run wild. I read to those peaceful souls who surrounded me, poems of love and sonnets of death, from my two favorite Chilean Poets, Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, and Argentinean Alfonsina Storni.

I totally lost track of time, and before I knew it, the day had suddenly grown into dusk.

I drove back home, took a sleeping pill, went to bed, and thought of all the dead, until I too, became one of them as I drifted into a deep peaceful sleep.

There used to be this little old cemetery just on the outskirts of where I lived in a suburb of Sacramento. I used to sometimes go there when I was stressed out and sit under a tree and play guitar (not loudly and obnoxiously but softly and mostly to myself) and smoke cigarettes.

One time I was there sitting playing and smoking and I started getting really uncomfortable. Then I started hearing voices screaming at me in my head to "GET OUT!! GET THE FUCK OUT!!"

I tried to ignore it but it ended up freaking me out so much that I left and didn't come back.

(((HUGS YOU BACK))))

I think when I get back to the States - I'm going to have to make a trip to San Antonio and El Paso and look up some old haunts. When I get close enough to where I can actually DO the trip, I'll contact you - it would be great if I could swing by and see you for a bit!

a little gallows humor
meh, I never feared the dead...It's the ones who are still alive you've got to watch out for.

How many people are buried at the cemetary?
all of them.

Re: a little gallows humor
I just can't understand why so many people are afraid of the dead, when as you said, it's the living we should fear.

How many people are buried at the cemetary?
all of them.

You my dear fella, are just too funny! :o)

Yes, and it works for us physically and mentally too.

Please get enough rest!!! It helps us keep a proper mental perspective on things as well as the physical needs.

This reminds me of a story, but I can't quite remember what. It's right there, at the edge of my mind.

I'm glad the place of your birth brought back peaceful memories!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could go back in time and become children again?

Contrario a la costumbre popular, un cementario sirve como lugar de meditación y reposo para los vivos. Me encanta tu primera foto...

Arguments aside, why do you keep posting NRA stuff everywhere, everyday? You did the no comments post again.

Why can't you sleep?

I can't sleep because of a certain ghost of my past continuously returning to haunt me.

May I make a suggestion? It is believed by many that scents are one of the few things in the material world that the spirits can appreciate. When I visit Family and friends who have passed, I will burn a stick of incense during my visit.

During your next visit, take and burn a stick or two as an offering to those who have pased, and open yourself to the energy that will be returned to you.

When I go to visit my parents I will spend time at the vererans area and when I go to my Grandparents, who are in Charleston, I will spend time in the Confederate burial area where the crews of the Hunley are buried along other Veterans. The returned energy from the Honored Dead is quite wonderful. Give it a try.

I never thought of scented candles!

I've been planning on going to this other old cemetery in Las Cruses, N.M. to take pictures, and of course to this same one where you see the pics.

What a beautiful effect it would have been, had I placed a candle on the bench. I'll do it next time.

I hadn't thought about it at all, but since you mentioned the veterans cemetary, I'm going to go to the one here, and take pictures, after all, one day I'll be buried there! :o)

Love you so much!

Well Sunshine you and me if we keep pulling our hair out then we will both be bald then they will call us mister and miss Moon_shine for real *Wink Wink*
so maybe we will have to help each other not be so stressed out by just being there for each other when ever we can. In the little ways that we do.

Sending you Lots of hugs and kisses! and Love:o)

Most interesting. Death is a part of us all, too many people want to deny it, not talk about it. I bet it was a most interesting time for your soul.

I don't understand why so many find it a taboo to talk about this thing called death.

Yes, it was most interesting. I could actually feel some souls standing right before me. I know one thing for sure, they were as happy as could be, having me as a guest, and they treated me much more special than lots of living do! :o)
