These pictures were taken February 2, 2007. I have had a total of 17 (I THINK!!) stray cats spayed, neutered and micro-chipped, and have 3 more to go!!

I have had to pay out of my own pocked for EVERYTHING, including a trapper, carriers, my gasoline, taking off from work for vet appointments to get these stray cats fixed, micro-chipping, spaying and neutering, and my time, with ZERO help from my city’s Humane Society!!

Ever since this micro-chipping law came into effect, I've seen more stray dogs and cats than ever. I already have 8 stray dogs that I pick up, and just can't afford to pick up anymore. This breaks my heart.

The very first time I contacted them, asking them what help they provided to those of us who TRULY care about animals, and getting a STUPID answer, that was the day I NEVER again contributed one penny to them!

I’m not complaining about the trouble and expense I’ve gone through to try and do my little part in this world to do what I have done for cats and dogs. I have gotten great satisfaction, knowing that I’ve stopped many unwanted kittens from coming to this world only to suffer.

This cat insists on sneaking into my car and traveling with me. She tricked me once when I drove to work. When I got out, I saw her, and had to drive all the way back home to drop the stinker off!

This is the expensive trapper I had to buy, because the Humane Society provides very few for this BIG city, and it's first come, first serve.

Since you liked it so much, let me find another one that's my very favorite for you!

How much do you figure you have spent doing this for the strays where you live?

One of the past kittens, who I named Davy and who lives inside my house, was attacked by my neighbors Chihuahua dogs when he was a kitten. They almost killed him and his leg was torn to pieces. I ended up paying over $1,000.00 to save him and his little leg.

I picked up another dog from the streets, who who had just been runned over and his entire back legs had been crushed. I ended up naming him Cujo. I paid a vet to save him and ended up paying over $1,000.00 again.

I have had 17 cats, and 10 dogs spayed and neutered, AND micro-chipped. I believe I've paid approximately $2,200.00 for all of them. This does not include the trapper which cost me about $75.00 or the pet carriers, and it doesn't include Jewely and Panchito who live inside the house.

When Mickey died last year, I paid over $800.00 for a COUPLE of minutes of the Emergency hospital, which I had to go to because he got sick on a Sunday, and my vet's office was closed. AND this doesn't include shots, and the food I feed them.

I'm thankful to God for helping me make enough money to do what I must do!

I spend more on the animals than I do on myself. I buy all my clothes and stuff at the 2nd hand shops, Swaps, Salvation Army's and Goodwills.

I don't mind at all. :o)

You're an amazing person. You really are. I have so much respect for you

Coming from you, you have no idea how special it makes me feel!

Does your vet give you a volume discount? :)

you are a sweetheart.
Feb. 10th, 2007 09:40 pm (UTC)
Thank you.

I am so lucky. I have this vet who is truly an animal lover. Not only does he charge me very little, he has the cats stay over night in his office to make sure they're okay.

It's very hard to catch these wild cats, and he understands this fact, and doesn't make me make an appointment. Whenever I'm lucky enough to catch them, I just call and he tells me to go over.

I also am blessed to have the boss that I have. He's also an animal lover, and lets me take off from work whenever I have these vet appointments.

My vet and my boss, are the true sweethearts! :o)

How many pets are you taking care of?
Feb. 11th, 2007 12:54 am (UTC)
Sorry, that was me
Last year I lost my Hedgehog Porky, my rabbit Honey Bunny, my precious little Mickey, my turtle Herman, and 3 of the stray cats.

I now have 14 (maybe 15) cats and 10 dogs.

I yard measures an acre, so I have more than enough space for all of them. :o)

Would you get me spayed and neutered please?
Feb. 11th, 2007 12:55 am (UTC)
Only if I can keep you! :o)
Feb. 11th, 2007 01:28 am (UTC)
That's cool. We're down to three cats but there's been a stray sighting in the neighborhood so I have my eye out for him/her. It's only 10°!
Feb. 11th, 2007 02:54 am (UTC)
I hope you are able to capture it soon. How wonderful you are to care so much for them!

You know that second cat the one in your car she just cannot get enough of you she is kind of like me don't you think :o) heee...

Now the three cats in the carrier look like there thinking, "O O what she is going to do to us now all we wanted was a cat treat" ;o) and that cat looking at the ones in the carrier
I bet he is telling them I told you cat treats are not free ;o) lol

So when do I get a treat?! ;o) *Wink Wink*

You have a big heart sunshine I am so glad you are my friend!

Re: when do I get a treat?
Every time I trap these little cats and take them to the vet, I worry that they’ll not trust me anymore afterwards, but they end up trusting me even more. And it’s funny how all the other cats gather around the pet carriers trying to make sure they’re okay.

Careful Sweety Pie, you don’t ever want to end up in my trapper! Haaaaaa

I’m glad you’re my friend, too! Love and hugs!

They need a new law requiring informing consumers of the COSTS of pet ownership (vet bills, food, etc.) over the life of a pet - to be posted in the display window for each pet in a pet store.
Feb. 13th, 2007 02:10 pm (UTC)
How I wish people would stop buying pets from pet stores, and can't understand why they do, when there are so many unwanted little animals at the Humane Society who will eventually be slaughtered.

And how I would love for all parents to teach their children that animals are precious and feel all the things we humans do. They feel hunger, thirst, fear, pain, and have the same need to be loved as we do!
Feb. 11th, 2007 12:21 pm (UTC)
Awwwww they are so so cute! Love them!!
Feb. 12th, 2007 04:25 am (UTC)
Yes, they're cute, and oh so sweet! :o)

For all you silly stuff, you are an amazing lady. Those critters have it way better than they could ever imagine.

My wife and I remind Josie that she did not win the lottery in finding us, that would have been with my wife's best friend, Ann or with you, but she may have hit a close second. grin...

She will get a haircut on Thurs, with the cold we had most of the winter I just did not want her shivvering all the time just so she would look nice.
Feb. 13th, 2007 02:17 pm (UTC)
Thank you Sweety Pie, but I'm only amazing when it comes to animals.

You realize, just as I do, how precious pets are. I know Josie was born under a lucky star when she became your baby.

I haven't taken Jewely to the beauty shop either, because she refuses to wear her little sweaters, but just as soon as it becomes warmer, I'll take her. She really looks much cuter and cuddly with all her hair than when she's clipped.

Sending hugs and love to you, too! :o)

My daughter's cat has to be kept in the house or he would meet the faith of the barn cats who are out witted by the bob cats and coyotes. The dogs seem to manage better than the cats here. But when one lives 23 miles from the nearest town life is different for animals and people.
Feb. 13th, 2007 02:23 pm (UTC)
How terrible for the cats! I had no idea that they were attacked by bob cats and coyotes!

I'm so happy that your daughter keeps her cat safe inside the house!
Feb. 12th, 2007 02:20 pm (UTC)
Have you ever thought about starting your own non-profit organization for strays? Maybe your own rescue operation?
Feb. 13th, 2007 02:20 pm (UTC)
That would be nice, but it's impossible because I just wouldn't have the time to care for them as I should.

I recently found out that this city once had a lady who did that, but she died. Hopefully, someone will pick up where she left off.
