WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE?

Now Davy is determined to sleep with me, along with Jewely and Mickey! Thank goodness I have a California Bed! Mickey isn't too happy and starts barking furiously! Jewely is such a sweetie that she's just accepted it. I'm not too happy either. But, what can I do!? I don't want to hurt Davy's feelings!
I have a big problem with this because Davy insists on waking me up during the night by insisting on sleeping right in front of my face. His little paw keeps pawing my face and wants to put his mouth right up to mine. I grab one pillow and cover my face, leaving a tiny space so I can breathe, but he'll find it and slowly stick his head into it! I suppose I'll end up buying scuba diving equipment (kidding of course) just so I can breath normally again!

There are times during the night that I'll wake up and find him right at my face, staring at me, eye to eye, and purring like crazy or feel him gently nibbling on my fingers! I'll grab him and firmly place him at my feet, but he immediately comes back to my face to annoy me! I've never known a cat like this one.

Davy follows me everywhere and whenever I sit down; he'll jump on my back, settle himself against my rear end and fall asleep. It's most uncomfortable when I'm at my computer because I have to literally sit right on the edge of the chair.

Sometimes he'll decide to get in front of me, demanding I hold and cuddle him, which makes it very difficult for me to surf or type at my computer. If I should decide to sit and watch TV, he'll sit on my shoulder and put his little face right in front of me and stare! Never have I encountered a more stubborn little cat. Oh, Jewely and Mickey are having a difficult time handling their jealousy towards Davy! They'll look at me and I just know they want me to tell them why this intruder is in our lives! I keep telling them that Davy is now a permanent member of our family!

Cat lovers:
Is Davy's behavior normal or is it odd? Why does he insist on digging himself into my pillow to breathe my breath? Why does he insist on waking me up during the wee hours of the night? Is there a solution? I'd really like to know.

Here's a picture of my kids. You can plainly see how
Mickey and Jewely try to segregate themselves from Davy!

I'm a little more knowledgeable about dogs.

Guess I better read up on cats, and fast!

Before Davy was attacked, I had gone to the 2nd hand thrift shop and saw a book about cats. I looked at it and found it contained everything you'd want to know about cats. I put it back on the shelf and left. I now regret not buying it.

I shall. What a predicament I've found myself in! Even in my bed!

I've had cats that do that, usually while they're young. Normally they outgrow it so you may just have to keep placing him where you want him to stay, at least for a while. He will most likely outgrow it as he gets older.

You give me hope!

Davy's 5 months old, so I suppose I'll be able to survive maybe 7 more months of interrupted sleep!

I guess I've spoiled my babies rotten, but then, that's what the kiddies are for, to spoil rotten, huh?!

*L* Yeah, they can be a little needy when they're babies but once they grow up the get that "you are my servant" attitude that leaves you wishing they were kittens again.

Davy has a history and if you'd like to read about it on my journal, this is the link:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/playgirl/74298.html#cutid1

I've had cats before, but Davy has to be the strangest and smartest of them all. He's a lap kitty and must have my attention!

Thank you for complimenting my doggies! They are the apple of my eyes! Davy recently came into our lives, but I'm quickly growing to love him like crazy!

I'll be posting a pic of one of Davy's brothers soon. What's so strange about this particular kitten is that he's all grey, but half of his tail is the color of Davy! haaaaa
Hugs!

p.s. Did you know that all red cats are male and all calicos are female?

Calicos are all females because color is passed along the X chromosome.

So why would a red cat be male?

it's very normal. Some of the Cajuns, that I've met, have a phrase for this. They say that the cat is taking your breath...But, in all the years I've had cats, there have been many who just found it necessary to be close to my face while I slept. Often it was just because they liked the pheromones that I was sending out... and so I just sort of let them go...hehehe...

Give Davy a big hug for me...

Love always,

Mickey

That's exactly it! Davy is trying to take my breath away!

I was kidding before about buying scuba diving gear, but now, I think I will go buy it!

I'll give Davy a big hug and tell him it's from you!

well he loves you :D

maybe it will settle dwn. my chihuahua goes through these phases wher ehe has to be held all the time. and he is a stubborn little thing!!

you davy reminds me of a cat I used to have called Sebastian. He could be totally irritating but had the most beautiful nature!

Awww, yes he does!

How incredible it is that animals have the exact feelings as humans. They need to be loved and they feel jealousy. I think they're more human than humans!

Davy's possessiveness irritates me at times, but oh, how I love that little piece of fur!
Hug to you and your little Chihuahua!

Greetings, M'Lady Playgirl.....
Purrr!
Davy is being a cat.
Cats snuggle.
You are the 'head of household' so
All & Everyone just groups up for the night.
Yes, That is very standard cat behaviour.
Years ago - when she was still with us -
"Ginger" used to not only sleep in bed -
she'd snuggle down inside the covers.
When my legs got very warm in the early morning I'd know
"Ginger" was snuggled in and happy.
Davy is doing what is very normal.
Enjoy.
He may even learn the 'under the covers' trick.
You'll never need a 'foot warmer' ever again!!!!
Enjoy!
Purrr......

Re: Greetings, M'Lady Playgirl.....
I am such a sight in bed. Mickey sleeps on top of my head, Jewely sleeps against my bent legs and Davy sleeps against my face! I don't believe I need covers anymore!

I have so many things to post, along with pics that are very funny. I know my LJ friends are ready to barf by my bragging about my 4 legged kiddies, but each day brings something so cute and funny that they've done. I swear, I carry my digital camera in my pocket, just so I can take those Kodak moments of my babies!

Hugs my Apple Dumplin'!

Re:Re: Greetings, M'Lady Playgirl.....
Apple Dumplin'???
Cool.
Never been called -or considered - anything that
/ahem/ tasty before....
And keep that camera nearby.
I use my cell-phone cam.
It's not nearly as good -
but untill I can get a digital camera -
it will do.....
We who live with the 'furred ones'
never mind reading and seeing images of the
little ones.
I don't anyway.....

Hugs?
And what would You be wearing, M'lady????
Perhaps I best not ask - or even think of that.....

Take Care.....

Seems pretty normal to me...
...I grew up with a cat and a dog who always slept with me. the dog by my side and the cat like a hat across the top of my head.

Now I have my pride of five and one always sleeps next to my head or across the top, one typically lays on my right side and another lays on my left while the remaining two visit and lay at the foot of the bed or on my foot when they feel like I'm worthy of their late night attention.

As for peeking and purring, they all take turns letting me know that they are still around as I sleep by poking, scratching, nudging, and licking until I wake up and pet them for a second or two until they are satisfied and scooter off into the darkness.

This is the joy of indoor cats.

As for Davey's brilliance, it's because he's named Davey, all Davids are super geniuses like moi- LOL! Actually, I've noticed that the more challenging their start in life the more alert, playful, and resourceful they are as they grow up. Plus all the one on one human contact doesn't help- After a while they start to think they are more human and thus entitled then us humans.

Re: Seems pretty normal to me...
All Davids are artistic, too! Like you!

The cats I've had before, weren't too much into human contact, but Davy is different. He demands hugs and even kisses!

Grandpa has given Davy only one bath since he became a member of my family and it was the pits! I don't think we could go through that again, so I called Mickey and Jewely's hair dresser and they say they can bathe him for me.

Do you have any good secrets for bathing your kitties? If so, could you share, because it would save me some money.

Purrs and arf's from me and my peanut gallery!

The secret to bathing kitties is...
...Chain mail armor.

Seriously, I don't know any true tricks to calm the savage beasties at bath time. Twice a year my roommate and I end up looking like the poster children for self mutilation with our arms being so scratched up from bathing the kitties.

Best advice I can offer is team work. Typically what transpires is we corral one cat at a time in the bathroom, one of us picks the cat up and holds it gently but firm in the sink as the other rinses the kitty with luke warm water and a bit of baby shampoo making sure not to get any water above the cats shoulders. Afterwards it's rinse, quick "dry" with a towel, and then release (We usually turn up the heat in the condo so though damp the newly bathed cats aren't cold).

The cats tend to be pissed off until they are completely dry then it's back to business as usual.

Meow!

For a second there i thought you had broken with your confirmed bachelorette status. My cat would sleep with me but i think i rolled over too much so she would get up and move off the bed.
playgirl
Dec. 13th, 2005 03:51 am (UTC)
I used to be one of those who would roll all over the bed. Those were the happy, confortable days.

Somehow, your body doesn't move AT ALL during the night, for fear of crushing one of them.

One good thing about it is that they keep me warm during the night!

Yes, that's strange. I know I go to bed in one possition and wake up in the same one.
