Tattoos and questions

How do you feel about tattoos? Do you have a tattoo? If so, where? What's the image of? If you don't have a tattoo, why not?

Although, I LOVE them, I don’t have one, nor do I have pierced ears. Why? Because my mom once told me and my four brothers to never to get tattoo, or get my ears pierced. All of us, except for one brother, have endured to her wishes. Had she not asked this of me, I would have most certainly gotten one, and had my ears pierced!

Whenever I see someone with a tattoo, I ask them if I can take a pic of it. I have quite a collection of pictures!

I took these pictures at a club last week when I visited California, where they had an all girl tattoo contest.

Tattoo lovers - Enjoy!

I love that song.

I don't have one. I've wanted one. I have such weird allergies though I've been afraid to get one and also a touch afraid of the pain. I would have David choose it.

I love it, too. It's among my favorites.

I'm sure if you ever got one, he'd choose one as artistically beautiful as you!

I'm not keen on tattoos. On men, I can view them as just another scar. On women, they're a real turn-off.

On my right shoulder I have a Les Paul guitar with the words"Keeping the Blues Alive and Well"
On my left shoulder I have a large red tribal eagle.
On my left forearm I have the Chinese figures for peace & serenity.
On my right calf I have a large blonde pin-up girl.
Going to add the Eye of Horus over the eagle this summer.
So, yes I have a couple tattoos. I think woman with tattoos are exciting.

WHAT?! A BLONDE pin-up girl when I'm a BRUNETTE?! Amor mio, and here I thought I was the only girl for you! :o(

They must all be very nice, but I bet the eagle one must really be beautiful.

Smooch!

I was extremely disappointed when I downloaded the pics and saw that my camera hadn't caught the beauty and vibrant of her tattoo. It was absolutely beautiful!

Yeah, tattoos are love!

Do you have a pic of your tattoo. Sure would like to see it.

I think a tattoo on a man's bicep is so darn sexy!

I have two little butterflys - one on my shoulder, one on my breast.

I love mine. They make me smile when I think about them/see them.

I don't really like the ones that are a hodge podge and seem to have no coherency. I mean, I can understand. And I can appreciate tattoos that I do not like.

I don't blame you for loving them. If I had some, I'd be smiling, too.

No tats or piercings for me, but I like them in moderation on others, but the face and neck are places I don't want to see them (well, maybe a small one on the back of the neck would be OK).

I don't have any because I've never found an image that I would want with me for the rest of my life.

I don't like them on the face or neck, either. I feel it's a big mistake.

Perhaps someday you'll find the perfect image for you. I an eagle would be perfect.

Those are some really neat tattoos. I don't have any myself, but I do plan on getting at least one for my 21st birthday, of either a dachshund (for my dog) or of two swallow birds. & then possibly more later on!

Either one is a good choice. If Mom hadn't made me promise not to ever get one, I'd have one of my two favorite little dogs, and since I'm an NRA member, I'd have the other of a tiny little gun.

Hope you'll share a pic when you get one!

I am of the opinion that tattoos look good on people... until they get older and things start to sag. Then what was once a tattoo of a bad-ass valkyrie riding on the back of a dragon begins to look like a yawning bulldog with a mouthful of dead fish.

I pierced my ear myself when I was 13, but it got infected and I let it grown back in. I would have gotten tattoos when I was younger, but I was not allowed to by doctors because of chemo. Since then, I just think I've grown too old for 'em. They don't interest me as much as they used to.

I think I'm officially becoming an old fart. (Damn kids and their rock 'n roll music and Pac-Man video games! *shakes fist at world* )

I think people who are getting the highly detailed, complex tatts will regret it as they get older and everything runs together. I solved the sagging flesh problem by getting my tattoos after the flesh already sagged.

How do you feel about tattoos?
I generally like them. Sometimes there is just wrong ink for wrong people, but I don't begrudge them the ability to make art on their bodies. I grew up in the 70's when tattoos were still very 'negative' in culture, and only the 'hoodlums' and sailors and such had them - or at least that's how my mom sort of painted my image of tattooed people. It was always a very cautious and usually stupid or regretful thing to do, as she counseled me. She was otherwise fairly open-minded.

But I like tattoos. Still sort of sad when I see young kids getting them in places that can't be reasonably covered in casual ways, though. Even if I think it's ok that someone tattoos their hands, society still holds that old grudge of negative stigma about people with more than a discreet, tasteful tattoo, it seems. At least the world of "gainful employment" vs. unskilled labor that pays low. I know that's a generalization. And that tolerance has opened up in recent decades. Still, until I was in my teens, I was really conflicted about tattoos.

Do you have a tattoo?
Not yet. I've wanted one or few for years now.

If so, where? What's the image of?
not applicable.

If you don't have a tattoo, why not?

Well, it boils down to money, mostly. I just don't prioritize enough money as disposable income to be able to start that ink art. And with the cost of a tattoo, it's gonna have to be worth that initial investment. If I won a gift cert for a local parlor in a contest as they sometimes are given away, I'd be inking up in a heartbeat. But I just can't find the money yet above the cost of living and my regular recreational pursuits.

I also am indecisive. If you gave me the green light to get a tattoo or multiple tattoos as a teen or in my early 20's, I might have some things I'd regret now. As it is, I want to focus on things that *are*. No fads, no trends, no passing fancies, but things that are indisputably *me* that won't go away whether I'm 14 or 40 or 80. Lifelong messages or reminders or art that can't haunt me within a decade - and the tolerance to learn what it's like to have to respond to it and tell stories about it over and over and over and over...

I do have a few ideas. And it's an impulsive thing now. With half an assurance of what I want (see above), given the cash and time, I'd go do it before I could say no, and get the process started. Once you get the first one, you can't stop, I'm told.

I need that first one. Soon.

My Mom, like yours, always had a bad attitude towards them. My brothers and I had totally different views from hers. I was sure back then that I would someday get one, but then we lost her, and just kept our promise, except for one brother, not to ever do it.

I like to watch Lock Up and have seen guys ugly tattoos all over their face, scalp, and body. I often wonder if they ever got out of prison, who in the world would hire them.

I love looking at tattoos of all sizes when they're artfully done, and whenever I see someone with one, I ask if I can take a pic. I have some where I just went ahead and took one from afar without the person knowing.

When you take that first one, please share!

I think a tattoo of Big Ben would look fabulous on you chest or back!

I'm pretty bad about needles, too. One time I even fainted when the doctor poked me.

Oh, and THANK YOU so very much!! They really look great on me! :o)

Tattoos, particularly large ones that cross over multiple body areas, are insanely sexi.

I met lexica510 at a tattoo convention in Seattle as part of a rec.arts.bodyart gathering.

I have a Jolly Roger on my right shoulder and a Yosemite Sam on my left.

HNT - Kettlebell Halo, back view

On my left pec I have a tattoo of the Black Rock Ranger logo from my years in khaki.

HNT - Couch Snoozy Monkey

I don't have any and probably never will. It's just not my thing. I did think about getting a Celtic Cross on the right shoulder and a Star of Baphomet on the left shoulder. I used to be deeply into the occult and magic and thought about doing that to show the duality of man: not to mention the universe.
Back when I was in the Navy a bunch of us got drunk and went out to get an anchor tat. I was sober enough to not get one and thank God for that every day. hehe
