I have no respect for justice.

I have no respect for justice.
I maim without killing. I break hearts and ruin lives.
I am cunning and malicious and gather strength with age.
The more I am quoted, the more I am believed.
I flourish at every level of society.
My victims are helpless.
They cannot protect themselves against me
because I have no name and no face.
To track me down is impossible.
The harder you try,
the more elusive I become.
I am nobody's friend.
Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same.
I topple governments and wreak marriages.
I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartache and indigestion.
I spawn suspicion and generate grief.
I make innocent people cry in their pillows.
Even my name hisses. I am called Gossssip.
Office Gossip. Shop Gossip. Party
Gossip. Telephone Gossip.
I make headlines and headaches.
Before your repeat a story ask yourself:
Is it true? Is it fair? Is it necessary?
If not ~ shut up.

Is it true? Is it fair? Is it necessary?

And if the answer is yes?

I have an interesting story that I can tell about all that.

Although I thought it up myself I'm pretty sure it's not original. So, that being the case... have at it.

Here's a picture from a Tennessee artist named Jim Gray that is titled "Gossip" and is another good way to portray the effects of gossip. See if you can make out the image...

Thank you for posting that awesome picture.

If only those who gossip, would comprehend that their evil tongues can very possibly bring death. I'll be posting a poem I
wrote a few years ago, about the destruction of gossip.

I'll probably use this very picture, too.
