Al Sharpton v Santa Claus - Ho Ho Ho

TMZ mentioned that Beyonce Knowles outfit looked like a Roboho. Sharpton became outraged about it and is now accusing TMZ.com of being “racist and misogynistic” for using the word, and demands an immediate apology to Beyonce.

Yes, he’s at it again, by protesting the use of the word “ho” as well as the “N” and “B” words! At the rate Sharpton’s going, nobody is going to be permitted to use the A thru Z word! Does this mean Santa Claus won’t be able to say HO, HO, HO anymore?!

By and by, I think Beyonce Knowles looked gorgeous as she sang Get Me Bodied in her Roboho outfit, and I’m sure she didn’t mind her outfit being called a Roboho at all!

I watched that debate last night - was it on Fox News? Can't remember. Anyway... I'm glad Sharpton does things like this, because with every moronic speech he makes, his credibility becomes even more of a joke. He attacks TMZ, yet not Jay Z, Beyonce's own boyfriend, for the language he uses? The man is a filthy hypocrite, and proves so every time he opens his mouth.

Sorry, had to edit my last reply
Al Sharpton's Letter to TMZ:

"Calling any woman a "ho" is demeaning and abusive and it should not be tolerated on any level. It is intolerable to think that TMZ.com would find humor in calling Beyonce -- someone who symbolizes the strength, dignity and uplifting of Black women -- a "Roboho," and they should be denounced by the entire community for glorifying the continued oppression of women with this derogatory term. Racism in America is perpetuated by ignorance and hate and using one's airwaves or media entity to promote it is a blatant setback to civil rights and the advancement of equality.

National Action Network has been in the forefront of protesting the word "ho" and will hold a 20-city tour featuring 100 women in each market on August 7th to protest the use of the word "ho" as well as the "N" and "B" words. We encourage TMZ.com to retract their misogynistic labeling of Beyonce and apologize immediately."

TMZ's reply to Al Sharpton's Letter:

Thank you Rev. Sharpton. In response to your statement questioning TMZ's use of the term "roboho," first and foremost, please note that we called Beyonce's performance outfit "roboho" not Ms. Knowles herself. There is a difference. One need not know a celebrity personally to have an opinion on their wardrobe. Joan Rivers created an entire industry based on this fact.

As to accusations that our comment was racially motivated, TMZ has humorously called into question many celebs for wearing racy outfits -- regardless of their race. In the past, TMZ referred to Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, as "poshtitute," Hulk Hogan's daughter a "working girl" and called Lindsay Lohan's trashy ensemble a "HO-rror." A tight mini-dress is a tight mini-dress! Even Kid Rock got a humorous "ho" reference in a December 2006 story, and last we checked, he was neither Black nor a woman.

The point of the BET Awards story was to humorously highlight the fashion missteps of celebrity attendees at the show. We were making light of their outfits -- not who they are as people. With everything serious going on in our world, if you can't make fun of something as superficial as awards show clothing, then what can you make fun of? TMZ has done similar fashion stories for the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, CMAs, etc. If nothing else, the wardrobe critique of the BET Awards proved that TMZ is an equal opportunity offender when it comes to the snarky fashion policing of Hollywood.

We ask you should the word "ho" be banned? Or only in reference to Black women? Isn't the context in which a word is used almost as important, if not more so, than the actual word? While others may have used the term with maliciousness -- ours clearly was not. It was a humor piece -- as all of our fashion roundup stories are.

TMZ appreciates your feedback, Rev. Sharpton, and the dialogue it has opened, but it is clear that the only thing more subjective than what is fashionable, is what one finds funny.

Re: Sorry, had to edit my last reply
I had not actually read his letter, nor the response - only saw the debate on TV last night.

It all comes down to the fact that Sharpton has no humor :)

Sharpton annoys the crap out of me. I just want to officially announce I think Sharpton is a "Nappy Headed Ho."

Since he jumps on things to get publicity, I want publicity for calling him a "nappy headed ho" and make my name a household one as well.

I know two words that will make Mr. Sharpton go away...
Tawana Brawley....look it up yourself, Al will get flustered and run away from any situation if you ask him about those words...

Al will use any excuse for attention, he's on a bit of a power high casue he thinks he took Don Imus off the air...too bad Imus is coming back to radio and will probably have gigantic ratings for his return, I'm sure the "Nappy headed Ho hour" is going to be a feature on his new show...

Never heard of the girl, but I looked up Tawana Brawley as you suggested. What a horrible man! The Worst of Al Sharpton almost destroyed an innocent man, and still won’t apologize!

Re: I know two words that will make Mr. Sharpton go away...
I've actually met Al on a couple of occasions...I used to work downstairs from the NY1 studios (it's like a local CNN), Al never spoke to anyone, just sat there having his hair sprayed and his nails cleaned by several assistants who preen him like Paris Hilton's chihuahua. He only pretended to be Human when the camera was on...The guy is 100% Bullshit.

Al Sharpton will never in a million years hold a candle to one of my many American heroes, Martin Luther King, Jr., who was fill with so much wisdom, peace and love!

Always look at the source.
Big Al is about making money ( and promoting) for Big Al. Although it is disturbing that he still has credibility.

How funny! When you commented here, I was reading your very interesting journal entry! :o)

I just can't imagine the man have any credibility left, after his latest outrage by the word Roboho!

Small world isn't it?

He is what he is. When things are slow/dull, the networks jump to the latest A.S. outrage. I think he is a fading star though.

Santa's HO HO HO
Al Sharpton will forever be known as the man who tried to obliterate Santa's HO HO HO; besides, Santa Claus is the darling who invented the HO word eons ago!

HO HO HO!

I know exactly what you mean about the B word! The only word that comes to my mind is the word BITCH.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BITCH is a term for the female of a canine species in general. It is also frequently used as an offensive term for a woman, taken to mean that she is malicious, spiteful, domineering, intrusive, or unpleasant.

I've lost count as to the countless times I've been called a BITCH, and I've never been offended by it! :o)

Al Sharpton is a racist himself. He is just a poverty pimp who wants to try and shake down various groups like TMZ for money. If TMZ pays him some money then he will shit up and sing their praises.

P-L-E-A-S-E! Call him any other name in the dictionary, but not Zinger! I'd just die if the word zinger were banned!

Er...what does zinger mean?

It means nothing. I just want him to start tripping on the word. Assuming I'm racist because I'm white and I called him a name. Basically I'd like him to make a big deal about it, and then as sarcasticly as I can, I eventually tell him that it's a hostess cake. And that I called him that because of how sweet I think he is for the all great work he's doing for his people instead of for his own personal gain. :)

Oh, he can just go suck my dick.

You know... if you dress like a whore, you are percieved to be a whore, until you explain to the guys trying to pick you up on the side of the street at midnight that you are not a whore.

*chuckles*

The real issue here is why these "good and Christian girls" are using sex to sell their music. Beyonce, Jessica Simpson, and on and on and on, are shoving their tits and asses into people's faces while contending that they are not selling sex. How come Sharpton isn't complaining about that? If my mind serves me correctly it is sort of his job to say "Don't dress like a Ho, you young women."

*grins*

in regards to the don imus controversy, again, i agree with sharpton and applaud him for getting that racist asshole fired.

however in this case, i think sharpton is way off base. one could argue that the roboho comment was misogynistic but by no means is it racist.

i don't agree with the comment but i don't think it's worth protesting.

Al went too far this time, with the roboho word, and I believe he did more harm to the cause than good in doing so.
