Big Brother? Raising children?

Is it my imagination, or is the government entered the homes of
parents more and more to control every aspect of how they must
raise their own children when it comes to disiplining them,
and even going so far as to dictate what they must feed them?

Thoughts please.

Govermental control
I think there are those in the governemnt who would like to impose their ideas etc on all of us, for the greater good of all, all taken from their own basis.

I have been reading a book that referes to one's "Ego" and how many problems come from that. Probably where the above thoughts come from also.

Part 2: I still have that newspaper, if you want it send me $7.00 includes postage and it is yours. Send a reply to my email and we will get it done.

Re: Govermental control
Ron, I want that newspaper more than anything in the world! I was afraid to make an offer for fear of going too low, but now that you've quoted me a price that is just too wonderful, I WANT IT! :o)

I'll contact you!

What frightens me most is the fact that nothing pertaining to politicians shocks me anymore!

Yep.

The favorite speil we hear is "It's for the children". They say this with regard to gun control, food control, cigarettes, cell phone bans, censorship, and pretty much all nanny laws.

And we let them get away with it.

The entire idea behind socialized health care is just more of the same.
Hell, pretty much everything a socialist stands for is about telling us what to do, with the socialists ideals backed up by the governments monopoly on deadly force.

I still don't understand how you support the socialist Democrats, yet you seem to hate so much of what they do.

No, it isn't that we let them get away with it; it's that there isn't a darn thing we can do about it, because it's already gone too far.

I dislike so much from both parties, and both parties lie, so I had no choice but to choose the Democratic Party from the two evils.

I don't feel comfortable anymore, because I honestly believe we're being watched even when we go to the bathroom! By the way government is running things at this point, and by all the changes that have been made to the U.S. Constitution, I’m positive our forefather’s are turning in their graves!

I remember once watching a classic science fiction movie called Soylent Green, which I felt was in some way foretelling mankind’s future.

I don't know about other places, but here we're required to provide 'a meal' and 'a roof' daily. We are still allowed to physically discipline our children as long as they aren't hit hard enough to leave lasting marks. I don't really care what anyone else thinks of me for it either, if I've exhausted my options and my kids are still out of control, I will smack their rear. As a responsible parent, I want the government to stay out of my house. Not because I have anything to hide, but because I know we're doing what's necessary to raise people who will be productive members of society.

As much as I hate to say it, there is a need for someone to step in, in too many cases. It does go too far sometimes though. When it comes down to it, CPS will take the kids and ask questions later. That's a good thing in the case of real neglect/abuse. Not such a good thing for parents who really care about their kids and have some kind of mix up where an everyday childhood injury is decided to be abuse. I know a lot of parents who are terrified of taking their kids to get medical care for falls/bike accidents/etc, because it's not unheard of that the kid will get taken away because of a broken arm that resulted from a kid being a kid. That's where it goes too far.

I worked with CPS indirectly back in the day. Believe me the chance of a child be taken away for a broken arm is extremely rare unless there is some other indication of abuse in the examination of that child. Sure, it has happened before, but unfortunatately those rare exception get played up as the norm. I think some of these stories have been played up to the point of urban legend. Oh how I wish, they had the authority to take a child away from some of the abuse I've witnessed such as cigarette burns, living in houses with shit on the floor and days old food laying around, broken limbs from abuse, etc. But unless they are aware of it most of that goes unreported.
The original point in this LJ is true though. I think for the most part legislatiors give in to too many mora;lity lobbyists of some sort or another. One side of the right, you have them lobby to legislate porn, adult toys (in Texas you can legally own more guns than dildos), gay marriage, etc.

On the left they push seatbelt laws, smoker laws, gun laws, and even banned transfats in some cities.

In this land of the free we're treated as children.

Maybe....
.. if parents would actually raise their children instead of using the Tv and internet as a bad substitute... "The Government" (by the way.. run by a bunch of people.. like the rest of us.) would not feel the need to interfer.

Re: Maybe....
The problem is that both parents have no other choice but to work because of the outrageous cost of living, and the children are the ones who must be raised by TV and the internet. It's just a vicious cycle, with no hope in sight for parents.

I wonder how many of those how run the government have perfect children. My guess would be only a handful!

I think another commenter said it best.

There are those in the government (Republicans and some Democrats) who would like to impose their ideas etc on all of us, for the greater good of all, all taken from their own basis. There are right wingers who try to impose their ultra-conservative views and prejudices on everyone (such as gay marriage). Hell I've seen said attitudes in some of the comments here. And there are liberals who believe that their way of life is the only way to go. Back in January I had to read some liberal Atheists the riot act because they were unjustly bashing Christians.

It's a slippery slope with a lot of these laws and situations like these. Yes laws should be in place to protect children from abusive parents and yes there is a fine line. With the exception of serious situations (such as abuse or neglect), government (liberal or conservative) has no business in the home. I think citizens and government officials alike should be careful because it is a slippery slope. The sad part a lot of these invasive initiatives are launched because of noble reasons.

But you know what they say about the road to Hell.

The government has created so many rules, and continues to do so, that eventually, we will have to carry a notepad listing ALL these laws so we won't break one of them.

The only time the government should be involved is when a child is in grave danger because of irresponsible parents. Responsible parents who are trying to do their best in raising their own children should be their business and theirs alone!

As for gay marriages, I believe in "live and let live!"

It all boils down to emotionalism and the phrase "Won't you think of the children?"

But don't they realize that millions of us don't have children, and their emotionalism affects us all?!!

Remember Hillary and Bill's "It Takes a Village" It was one of their first strikes, Trying to institute the Socalist regime in America. Pushing that Parents should not be allowed to raise and discipline their Children the way they feel they should. Luckily enough people saw Bill as the Village Idiot.

They also tried to push the Government into our lives by instituting a Governmental Healthcare. More socialist crap. You can be sure if she gets in the Whitehouse They will tax us more so they can spend our money in a way they suits them and not us.

Just my feelings here.
