Queen Elizabeth at White House

Queen of England arrives at the White House.

So what?!

By and by, who is paying for all the outrageous expenses to wine and dine this woman?

If I'm wrong by feeling as I do, and this woman has made large contributions to world hunger and suffering, please educate me, and I'll eat my words, along with my straw hat!

She does a fair amount for charity, but still, her main contribution to the UK is in generating tourism...

I'd love to, but only the noodles! Seriously, I have never in my life eaten chicken, turkey, or anything with feathers!

So, could you replace the chicken with some pork or beef?!

Surprised nobody's said, "But Playgirl, you're such a sweet a princess!" And then you'll get all lovey-dovey over them, and man, I'm just grumpy today so you shouldn't listen to anything I say.

I hadn't thought about that. Come to think of it, I wonder why nobody said that, 'cuz after all, I am kind of a sweety pie!! :o)

And why are you grumpy today?! You're alive, you're healthy, and you've got me! YAY!

I'm half and half on this. The outrage of wining and dining is unwarranted. It's what we do state dinners are accepted, but damn since I'm paying for it when will I ever get an invite? They should do a national lottery to let he common folk have a turn at eating at one of these things.
Quen Elizabeth is a national symbol and the Brits love their royals even if it'so they can have something to read about in their Gossip rags, but still does a national symbol need to be supported any further when you consider she is one of the richest women in the world? I mean we have our own national symbols but you don't see us putting up a bald eagle in it's own castle while collecting taxes to support all of it's eaglets who play polo, go fox hunting, etc.

I don't think it's fair that we weren't invited, also! I sure would like to know what all the guests will be having for dinner, after all, I did pay for on serving of corn on the cob!

Now, if it had been Princess Diana, I would have made sure I was present to personally roll out the red carpet for her!

Princess Diana IS and will always be The White Rose of England!

She has never impressed me. She was just borne rich and it just happen that she became Queen that is all. She is no different from any one else just the way I feel.

If a rich man gives a million dollars and a poor man a penny, the poor man has given more!
And I bet she has never even seen a straw hat,

Do not get me wrong I do not dislike the Queen of England and she has done some good too but I just think there is too much made of it. Did you know you can not kiss her hand or wink at her, not that I would want to but that is just to much:) don't you think?

calm down love, we haven't been hostile with england since 1815...

...The queen is a head of state and she rarely visits. It's perfectly acceptable to crack out the good china for one of her visits. Besides with our standing in the world today it would probably be prudent to make nice with the foreigners. Think of it as a public relations function of the executive branch.

I've already calmed down!

Can't help being a little hurt, since the White House hasn't even cracked out the good PAPER PLATES for me!

Seriously, you're right, and thanks for educating me on the subject! :o)

Diplomacy does count for something. That's why Ben Franklin gets to be on the 100$ bill.

my alma mater hosted her this past weekend, which was interesting and all because the queen of the time gave the charter for the school to be founded, but it also ruined everything in the small town for the past month and even moved graduations back a week. she basically crashed the party and brought nothing but a huge entourage and didnt bother to clean the mess.

but hers and her family's story is quite interesting, if you care about such things

I'm sorry about that!

There was a time when I was incredibly interested in the Royal family because of Princess Diana. When she died, I lost all interest.

CHarles is actually quite green-friendly, and though they have no official power, they have sway over matters economic and can give a nice nudge to those who they support or dont. they cant act like typical leaders because they arent. they're basically landlords with a huge public image

Yeah as the other guy said, all nations spend an obscene amount of money on their head of state. The argument for the British monarchy is partially one of economics: England would be a foggy, dreary place without it. Tourist go there by the plane load partially because of the queen, the palaces, etc. The monarchy is good for the promotion of british goods, as well.

I really don't mind rolling out the red carpet for her, or any of our world leaders, but I do find it sinful to spend so much money on so many frills, while there's so many in this world suffering from homelessness, hunger and pain.

And you want to nit pick a state dinner.

SHAME ON YOU!

I know Sweety Pie, and I now hold my head down in shame!

How stupid of me to feel as I did about her, but thanks to this LJ, where I have so many intelligent friends to set me straight in all my many STUPIDITIES, I have come to see the light!

Hope this doesn't interfere with me winning the presidency in 2008!! :o(

I'm disappointed in you. First of all, what sort of nation would the USA be if a VIP guest wasn't offered the proper hospitality? Secondly, seven visits by US presidents to three Royal visits seems to be a good trade off. Thirdly, Her Majesty is in her eighties and works as hard if not harder than the President, and has been doing the job for 53 years, is acknowledged as one of if not the most able mind on international affairs. She has a job she never asked for or applied for, and feels duty bound to do the work till the day she dies. She is the British head of state without any of the powers that the President has, in fact far less power than her representative in Australia, the Governor General, has.

She has watched with good grace while her successive governments have dismantled the British Empire giving independence to countries who then choose to repudiate having Her Majesty as Head of State, and yet most of those same countries choose to remain as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations mostly because of this gracious old lady.

Please don’t be disappointed in me. I just had to be honest, because I always thought Queen Elizabeth only sat in her throne all day giving orders. It’s good that I brought it up here, because many of you set me straight in my ignorance about her.

I believe I started having negative feelings about her, because her son was having an affair with that woman, when he had a truly beautiful, loving and caring princess as his wife.

Princess Diana has always been among my most loved and admired women in this world, and when she died, I automatically disliked the entire royal family, except for her two beautiful sons, because I felt she hadn't been treated very nicely!

I would never intentionally offend you! So, please forgive my stupidity! And thank you for setting me straight!

You are forgiven, Savannah. Spend some time finding out about Her Majesty as she is a fascinating woman. For example, the Queen is an able motor mechanic. During the war she served in the transport auxiliary and had to be able to strip and put engines together. She is also qualified with weapons, again a wartime necessity. She is an amazing woman and I think you would find a lot to admire her for.

Hugs to show you I have no hard feelings, dear.

I honestly had no idea about the things you brought out about her! I will start reading more about this truly amazing lady!

Thank you, and big hugs especially for you!
