I've been soooo sick for the past 2 days with the flu. Sneezing, coughing, sore throat, chills, nausea, body aches, headache. I haven't taken a shower for 2 whole days. I hope to God I feel a little better by tomorrow, 'cause MUST take a shower for sure. My nose is raw, my lungs hurt like crazy and I'm starting to smell funny. If I were to die from this, before taking my shower, I'd be so deathly embarressed!

I'm so sorry to see that you're sick! Get plenty of rest, Vitamin C, and chicken soup!

Did you get your flu shot this year? Make sure you get one next year.

Drink plenty of clear fluids. Hope you feel better.

thanks
Thanks for your well wishes on my terrible flu. No, I didn't get my flu shot, I've never gotten one. I will for sure next year and I hope that when the time comes, you'll remember to remind me of when it's time to do so.

heh. i *hate* that sick smell. its so disgusting, and i am convinced everyone else can smell it too.

hope you get better soon. eucalyptus/peppermint vapourisors are great to relieve congestion. i spent days with my head under a towel, over a steaming bowl, last time i was sick.

*hugs*

I used to get the flu at least twice a year. So I know how miserable it can be.

Experience makes me agree with the suggestion of a peppermint or eucalyptus inhaler. What also really works is a hot bath with a few drops of lavender oil thrown into the water. The lavender not only helps clear the sinuses a little bit, it acts directly on the amygdala to reduce pain and stress somewhat.

It might not help this time around. But here's what I keep in the back of the closet for when I get this sick: tissues impregnated with lotion, Breathe Right strips (like little, stiffened bandaids that spring your nostrils open), aspirin (or preferred anti-inflammatory), generic benedryl, and lavender oil. I also keep a few cans of broth or chicken soup in the kitchen.

The household meds and the Breathe Right strips are what recommend for sleep aids when ill with the flu. The benedryl drys out your sinuses, and helps keep down the mucus. And the Breathe Right strips help keep your airway open, and you oxygenated.

Hope you don't mind the advice, I just came across your LJ at random.

feel better mamasita...
I tried to mail you this soup already prepared but the envelope kept leaking, so you will have to have someone make this for you while you lay in a heap of snotty tissue.
Hope you feel better girl.

Mexican Chicken Soup

1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
1 cup coarsely chopped green pepper
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cans clear chicken broth
Corn cut from 2 ears of fresh corn or 2 cup of frozen corn
1 cup cooked rice
1 teaspoon chopped fresh cilantro or parsley
5 lime wedges

Spray large saucepan with cooking spray and heat over medium heat 1 minute. Add chicken, pepper, chili powder and garlic powder and cook 5 minutes, stirring often.

Add broth, corn and rice.

Heat to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Cook 10 minutes.

Stir in cilantro. Serve with lime wedges.
