I have a 2nd computer, but the one that contains literally thousands of files has crashed. I just can't believe this. I'll be working on this ALL day long. Wish me luck!

So today wouldn't be a good day for me to drop by huh?

Unless you want to stumble over a girl who is spattered all over the floor!

My computer is dead!

Question. Why me Lord? Why? I've been so good!!

I hope you are able to get everything fixed...

I got my most important domain up this morning! I think!

I have a similar problem.
At least we have the secondary computers, but man, it really bites when the primaries go out!

Re: I have a similar problem.
So sorry you have similar problem. My situation is as bad as can be!

Re: I have a similar problem.
Can you recover any of the data?
Aug. 6th, 2006 02:52 am (UTC)
Re: I have a similar problem.
Hopefully some. I worked on it all day today, but without success. I've already had a tech pick it up to replace the hard drive. When he brings everything back, hopefully by Monday, I continue to try and see what I can do with the old one.

There was so very much! I just can't believe, or excuse my stupidity!

I'm heartbroken!!

Stupidity? How was it stupid? O_o

Re: I have a similar problem.
There was a sign that I might have a crash, and it didn't dawn on me and just ignored it. I never made a back up. I should have since I had thousands of files and pictures I'd purchased.

There are no other words to describe me but STUPID!

I'll start using myself as prime example, as to what happens when you don't have a back up. I should have known better, but now it's too late.

Re: I have a similar problem.
It could happen to anybody at any time. Hindsight is 20/20, afterall.
Aug. 5th, 2006 04:32 pm (UTC)
Oh No!!!!
Aug. 5th, 2006 07:25 pm (UTC)

i'm so sorry.
Aug. 5th, 2006 07:25 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Bad situation!
Aug. 5th, 2006 06:45 pm (UTC)
I hope you have some sort of backup.

Been there and done that a few times myself. I now back stuff up to an external drive that is a bit safer.
Aug. 5th, 2006 07:26 pm (UTC)
I just don't know anymore! :o(
Aug. 5th, 2006 07:19 pm (UTC)
Bad luck! I very much hope that the recovery goes smoothly.
Aug. 5th, 2006 07:26 pm (UTC)
Couldn't be worse!! :o(

Well don't stress, just make sure that you don't go and format your hard drive. Have someone determine what the problem is and if it turns out to be the hard drive that needs to be replaced, go ahead and get it replaced but keep the new drive handy.

Let me read the rest of your posts to see if you added a description of the problem. I'll be back to comment some more if you've already left some details regarding the problem.
Aug. 5th, 2006 11:31 pm (UTC)
Ok, I read the posts but what happened? Did you notice anything at all and also, do you have someone looking at it already? Like I said, do not allow anyone to reformat your drive and if it turns out it is the drive that is the problem, buy a new one if necessary and keep the old one safe. This way, you can have it restored by someone who knows exactly what to do.
Aug. 6th, 2006 12:00 am (UTC)
Yes I do. A new drive has been bought, Windows XP Home.

There had been this popup stating that an error had occured. Everytime I'd X it out it would continue to stay, so I would just drag it down to the bottom. The computer was making a funny clicking sound this morning.

The old one will be returned without reformatting it.
Aug. 6th, 2006 12:13 am (UTC)
Did you happen to write the error down? Was it something like a 'disk read error'? And what would happen when you tried turning it back on? Did you get a blue screen with some text on it? What other details do you remember? I'm hoping that the data is salvageable.
Aug. 6th, 2006 01:13 am (UTC)
Dark screen with disk error, maybe. Insert floppy or whatever. Same thing every time I'd reboot.
Aug. 6th, 2006 12:15 am (UTC)
Oh, and I forgot to ask what the cause was supposed to be? Were you told that your disk was totally ruined or not? Were you told that the data was salvageable?
Aug. 6th, 2006 01:11 am (UTC)
It was ruined and unsalvagable.

There was a clicking sound.
The screen stated a floppy or disket had to be inserted. I think.
Aug. 6th, 2006 01:14 am (UTC)
Is Window XP Home okay?
Aug. 6th, 2006 01:44 am (UTC)
XP Home is fine.

You mentioned that the drive was “ruined and unsalvageable”. I hope that this is not the case and that the drive is still readable so you can get back your stuff.

So the technician was able to determine that you did need a new disk drive but I’m am wondering if he attempted to salvage the original disk’s data by installing the original drive as a secondary drive and copying the data back to the brand new drive.

You might want to call the technician up and just ask him if he attempted this. If he didn’t try to do this, he did not do a thorough job. I personally would hold off and wait for someone else to look at it.
Aug. 6th, 2006 02:42 am (UTC)
He's just going to put in the Windows XP Home.
I told him to just leave the old totally alone
and bring it back to me on Monday, when he's
suppose to bring everything else, because I
told him somebody wanted it.
Aug. 6th, 2006 01:13 am (UTC)
Must be from all of the incredibly sexy posts I leave you.
Aug. 6th, 2006 01:17 am (UTC)
You naughty pooch! You went and made my computer crash!

I'm gonna let all those nasty fleas and ticks gobble you alive!

Computer Dependent
It is amazing how dependent we have become on our computers. In SUCH a short time. I remember when I was in Korea in '88...we didn't have e-mail...now a short time later...I cannot LIVE with out it.
Has made the last 15 months almost bearable......

HOME in 30 days..woo wooo!!

Re: Computer Dependent
It is amazing, isn't it? Especially LJ! Thank God I still have access to communicating to all my LJ friends, through LJ. I don't even have email anymore, and were it not for this 2nd computer that I have, I honestly do believe I'd go completely quacky!!

I will count those 30 days, along with you, my darling friend!
Soon, you will be back home with all your loved ones!
Aug. 7th, 2006 12:41 am (UTC)
Don't worry...I'll buy you a new one....or give you some fleas..whichever comes first. :( But seriously..that sucks babe.
Aug. 16th, 2006 06:17 pm (UTC)
Well, thank gooozznezzz I won't be needing the fleas 'cause my computer came back from the dead! :o)
Aug. 17th, 2006 03:54 am (UTC)
