I came too close to dying this morning. I mean I actually started traveling toward the light in the tunnel! How did Playgirl almost kick the bucket? Well, let me tell you!

I was sitting in front of my computer this morning, half asleep, sipping on my hot coffee, when I somehow took a sip and it went down the wrong way down my esophagus. I spattered my desk, monitor, keyboard, floor and my robe with the coffee when I coughed. After I coughed, I couldn't catch my breath at all, and I started gasping terribly, but with each gasp, it got worse. I ran to the bathroom and still couldn't catch my breath. My stomach muscles contracted, the veins throughout my neck, arms and legs, went numb. My face turned purple and my eyes just about bulged out! Finally, little by little, I was able to catch my breath again.

My arms and legs still hurt, and my stomach and chest are in terrible pain.

I MUST caution you to drink your coffee very carefully, because it is quite possible that you could die from suffocation, just like I almost did!

MAJOR OUCH!! :( Sorry about that. Yes, we all should be careful about the hot beverages. Not only behind the PC, but perhaps more importantly if one's out walking, or driving a car.

Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, it was major and so scary! I believe I both sipped and breathed the coffee in.

You're right, one should be especially careful while drinking coffee and driving!

I'm feeling just a tiny bit better. My body hurts like crazy!
Thanks Sweety Pie and hope you have a great day!

Yes, I did panic, which probably made it all the worse. It was just to much! To actually die by suffocation is most horrible! Well, I didn't die did I? Thank goodness I lived to tell about it so I could warn you!

Thanks for the squishy hugs, I needed them! :o)

i've had this happen a couple of times because of acid reflux in the middle of the night, only it wakes me up from a dead sleep. not fun. i think it's because of inhaling some liquid into your lungs. scariest thing in the world, i feel your pain.

i've found that (since it's happened more than once!) that the trick is to be very still and not panic and just try to get as much breath without forcing it. eventually the breathing returns to normal and you can cry like a baby into a dishtowel. or at least that's what i do!

How terrible that this has happened to you, and more than once, and I hope it never happens to you again!

I had never experienced this before and it has left me shaking with fear! I was half asleep when I took the sip, and it sure woke me up fast!

Well, I'm glad you shared with me that you cried like a baby into a towel, because that's exactly what I did. I couldn't stop crying.

Hugs Sweety Pie!

I know, and what a way to kick the bucket!

I can just see the front pages:
Playgirl found dead in bathroom.
Tongue hanging out, eyes bulged out,
coffee stains all over her robe and
Tweedy Bird house shoes, AND head
stuck in toilet bowl! haaaaaaa

Seriously, it was a frightening experience
and I'm so happy I made it through. Life IS
wonderful, huh?!
Hugs and smoothes Sweet Stuff!

What a horrible and UNROMANTIC way to die for a girl!

Just be sure to take my advice, when sipping something,
be very careful! I just couldn't imagine this world
without you, Apple Of My Eye!
Great big hugs and kisses!

Re: guardin angel
It would have been nice if you had been here, because I was really close to death. My Grandpa was out in the backyard and I couldn't even scream for help.

I was so scared, that I even forgot to pray! But I do believe I survived because you somehow sent a Guardian Angel to save me!
Hugs and kisses!
May. 11th, 2006 05:17 pm (UTC)
I hope you are OK now. I wouldn't want to lose you.
May. 11th, 2006 06:14 pm (UTC)
Thank you Sweety Pie! I'm just a little bit better, but my body seems to still be in a little shock. I hurt badly, too.
May. 11th, 2006 06:08 pm (UTC)
Yikes, drowning must be like that. I had a similar problem once where I was eating a potato and a large piece got stuck in my throat. It wouldn't go up or down. At least I could breathe. My esophagus kept contracting but the thing wouldn't move. I tried to drink water and I'd just spit the water out. It wouldn't go down. Painful! Finally, hours later I was able to cough it up. I was about to go to the hospital. I had a sore throat after that. Then I took a valium to relax my muscles, and me.

Your muscles probably had a reflex reaction. Valium would probably be a good thing to take after something like that.

Hope the rest of the day/week/ etc. goes better than that!
May. 11th, 2006 06:28 pm (UTC)
Yes, I'm sure drowning is just like it.

You are very lucky you survived that awful experience.

I just found this link which states that choking caused by foreign body airway obstruction accounts for about 3,000 deaths each year.
1st-Aid for Choking - The Police Notebook

It was the most painful and horrible experience, because I could feel the veins throughout my body, ready to pop. My whole body is still in pain and my throat feels just like what you said.

Sure glad you and I lived to tell about it!! :o)

Hope you have a great weekend Sweety Pie!

OMG! I'm so glad you are okay!

What a horrible headline for Starbucks, though.. 'Death By Coffee'

May. 11th, 2006 11:06 pm (UTC)
Can you imagine opening your morning newspaper
and reading the headlines:

Playgirl found dead. Death by TOILET!
No foul play is suspected. Seems the poor
girl suffocated and fell, head first into her
own toilet! haaaaaa
May. 11th, 2006 06:57 pm (UTC)
That is scary. Hugs. Glad you're OK.
May. 11th, 2006 11:00 pm (UTC)
Yes, it was just terrible. Didn't think I would make it!
May. 11th, 2006 07:30 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you're okay! On the bright side, I'll bet you'll be more careful drinking while tired henceforth.
May. 11th, 2006 11:08 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Most definitely. I don't want to experience some like that again!

May. 11th, 2006 08:06 pm (UTC)
I am so glad that you are OK.

Looking Death in the face is never good, done it a few times myself.

Death by Choclate does sound better, grin...
May. 11th, 2006 11:03 pm (UTC)
dlanor, I would have been so embarressed if I'd have died.

With my luck, I would have dropped dead, head first into the toilet! :o(

I know I always have you to save me! :o)

Would you believe that happened around 5:30 this morning, and still my whole body hurts, especially my throat, chest and stomach.

Damn, what an UN-SEXY way for a girl to die!
Had I kicked the bucket, I'd be turning in my
grave right this minute from embarressment!
I mean, I'd never want to show my face again!
