KOREA, KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL TO THE FIRST BATTLE OF
THE U.N. FORCES, MRE, LOTTE WORLD - PART FOUR

MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) is ready made food for soldiers who are either out on maneuvers or in war. MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) come in a dark package, no bigger than a foot long.
A lot of soldiers do not like to eat them, but when you’re out on field roughing it, you’ll eat anything!

Whenever we were out on field for weeks at a time, an Army truck would go 3 times a week, and set up a little kitchen for breakfast and dinner (NO LUNCH). This always made us very happy, because the cooks would prepare delicious meals for us. I especially loved SHIT ON THE SHINGLES for breakfast!

MRE packages contain main the main meals which could consist of either:
Spaghetti, Chicken Stew, Beef Stew, Pork Stew, NO BREAD, (only crackers), and Macaroni and Cheese. The

vegetables were always mixed into the stew. Separate small packets would contain coffee, cocoa, and peanut butter with crackers, Tootsie Rolls, M&M’s, and chocolate bars. We always carried our canteens with water. No soda pops.

LOTTE WORLD

Another one of my pastimes was going to Lotte World. This was the only amusement park in the country but it was filled with an ice skating ring and many of the rides you see at our amusement parks here in the United States. Hard as I tried, I just couldn't ice skate and landed on my rump every single time. Funny, I was able to skydive without any problem, but my ice skates would just go every which way, causing me to tumble down ALWAYS on my damn rump! I take it back about skydiving! The very first time I did it, I was terrified. You just don't jump out of the airplane, you have to grab onto the pole, which runs straight across the wing of the plane, then walk your arms to the middle and look down. When I first did this, I shut my eyes as hard as I could, and kept asking myself how the hell I had ended up in that predicament! Once you're hanging from that rod, you let go! It is impossible for me to describe into words, how it feels; only a person who has done this, knows the exact feeling I'm trying to express. On my first jump, I landed on my feet, but my knees gave way, and I was dragged for what seemed forever, across the ground, nose and forehead! It's quite embarrassing for me to recall how I started crying. I have a pic where this guy ran to me, wiped my tears and babied me like crazy.

The rest of my time in Korea was spent working at the Camp Humphreys post office. We worked long hours but still had enough energy to go into the city to wind down.

It was a pleasure to have met so many friendly and good spirited people in Korea, and would gladly visit that country again, if given the opportunity.

Re: What
Yes, so many good boys were lost! The brother's memorial is the one that opened my eyes as to the horror of that war!

You have such a compassionate heart Mickey, and I love you so much for it!

Re: What
Thanks so much... I mean, I get so angry at the world for how easy it is for them to commit so many innocent people to death. I just get so angry. My heart just breaks when I think about the innocent women and children who are so lost... and so desperate that they are just begging for someone, anyone, to just turn their heads and reach out for them. I just want to hold them... love them, take them into my heart and to love them. And that goes for the suffering men as well. So many kind people... It's so hard for me, as I get older, to understand how there is so much loss in the world. So much... and the world just seems to not care... and I end up feeling sort of dumb... but I just don't know how to NOT care. I just don't know how to NOT do it. So I do. And I find that the more I love these lost souls, the larger my heart gets... the larger it gets...

You mean so much to me... you truly do...

Love always,

Mickey

Korea was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I seriously believe I will never again visit that country. Too bad!

for someone who does not eat meat, those MREs sound ~nasty~.

They were nasty! I'd throw mine away. But, when I was out on field, I'd get so hungry that they tasted like a gourmet dish!

I'd heard that there were no meat versions available now. I may have to try them again, just for old times sake. The last MRE I ate was still all cans and cardboard -- 60-70s vintage. There must have been some improvements since then. (Unless there is a secret government facility that covertly repackages MREs from the previous conflict.)

Improvement? I just can't see how there would be. They taste awful! As you can see by the pic I posted of the MRE chocolate packet, it's still intact and will remain so forever! Not even my Shadow People want it!

I suppose I do, because I'm still such a kid at heart.

MRE's are what have given nourishment to our soldier's for such a long time. They taste wonderful when you have no access to home cooked meals.

How I love your kisses, Pete! Muuaa!
